Definitely worth $4m, especially once the cap starts rising again. - BulliesPhan87

at risk of being unpopular (oh wait, i already am), i think tim thomas would be a good fit. i know he's 40 and hasn't played in the nhl in 2 years (1 season), but he was 28 before making his nhl debut and wasn't a starter until he was 32, i think the year off may help him physically, he's just a warrior, the guy battles, a true blue collar type. - flyerscup2011
I don't think it's a question of age. More of a question can he still play. Awful risky to sign a guy who has been sitting out. If would come to camp on a tryout, which I doubt, fine. |

A lot will depend on this season, but I think Read can get 3.5-4M per year. |

I would do that, but the Ducks wouldn't. They believe Ryan should bring back a top prospect. - PhillySportsGuy
true, but Read's contract is so minimal right now that he could be affordable future option since they are tied up in those two huge contracts with Perry and Getzlaf |

What do you think of the rumors of Cobrun + 11th pick for bobby ryan? - arichardson22
Would rather do Coburn and 11th for 5th overall. |

To you perhaps. I wouldn't want him at 4mil. - Flyersgod
Maybe you wouldn't. But you haven't expanded on the reasons why. A player who can score 20 goals and around 50 points. Can play in all situations on just about any line. Including the PK and PP, and is a sound 2 way player. Is absolutely worth 4M a year. |

Now can get and is worth are 2 different things to me.
Leino can get 4.5m, but he isn't worth it.
I'd rather Leino over Read, neither of which I'd pay 4m. |

If the Flyers trade Coburn, with the health concerns of Meszaros and Grossmann, you are down to Timonen, Schenn, Streit, and Gustafsson on the backend, with next to no depth behind that. Would leave the Flyers paper thin on the blueline. - PLindbergh31
Mez is another trade option, and i feel Grossman will bounce back fine. Plus we have Marc Andre Bourdon who was solid before last years concussion issues. Brandon Manning has shown some talent and Lauridsen displayed some 4th line talent at the end of year |

But Read could walk away after this season to free agency because we have more important players to sign (Giroux, Schenn Couts). Trading him would be our best interest, either at draft or even trade deadline this season - arichardson22
Would Read have more value in a trade as an impending UFA? Or as a player signed to new 4-5 year deal? |

His two way play, his offensive contribution, and his versatility up and down the lineup. He gives the Flyers some flexibility if they need to shake up the lines or if they need to trade another forward. |

He's been in the league for less than 2 seasons.
And you're willing to pay him more than Simmonds. |

I can see both sides of this one. I like him as a player, so if they can lock him up to a small contract for 2 years, say 2 years 4 million (Cap hit of 2m).
I'd like to trade him if their is value in the return. He could be used in a package. - Flyersgod
You have zero chance of getting Read at 2M a year. |

Trading one of Coburn or L Schenn would be a risky move. Two older guys in Streit and Kimmo. Two injury concerns with Mezzy and Grossman. |

Amazing player indeed.
But also a moron. - bradleyc4
He put his well being on the line for his teammates. Maybe not the smartest thing in the world, but the kind of respect that type of action has in the Bruins room is immense, immeasurable. |

I comprehend what he brings to the table. Just not willing to throw 4m at a guy with such a small sample size.
If they signed him to 4m that would take away organizational flexibility. Already too many guys making 4mil as it is IMO.

I think you have to deal in reality and assume they won't be healthy, and make contingency plans. |

Yes. I also understand the difference between a player who signed his deal as an RFA. And a player who has one year left and will be a pending UFA. |

Work switched over to 4-10 hour shifts, and I commute 2.5 hours a day. By the time I got home the idea of stressing myself out to watch the team not show up or compete didn't appeal to me. On top of that, I lost a lot of time with my son and I'd rather spend it with him then watch the Flyers. (He's too young to care about the Flyers yet. But he will.) - Flyersgod
Been there, done that.
When mine was real young, he hated when I had sports on.
Now, he'll watch the Flyers with me and if I walk out of the room, he'll tell me what I missed. |

Then we trade him. Have to look down the road. Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, and Coots are the future of this offense. You can't afford to pay all of them and have Read making 4m a year.
Unless we cut back on $ for defense. Which i'm fine with. |

I don't think it takes from organizational flexibility. $4m isn't going to be a huge cap hit for a player of his caliber moving forward. |
