I agree that OL may not be ready to play full time but I'd like to see him play as much as possible. - iskatefast
Well, considering how injuries go on our blueline, I can see him getting some NHL time during this season. |

How so? I would say he was our worst defenseman last year and could get good trade bait, having said that, he is entering his prime and is 28 - arichardson22
I like having his mobility on the backend. He'll be relied on less for offensive input, that should help him a bit. |

Timonen and Coburn were a great pair - they should be re-united next year.

Very true, he has great size and can move, i was just so disappointed with his efforts last season, then again the whole team was disappointing |

I think he's more than just a 3rd line winger, by quite a bit. Agree to disagree, I guess. - BulliesPhan87
Fair enough. I like Read as a player, I want to make that clear. |

yup and that leaves us with money to go after a goalie and 1/2 forwards. |

I don't see the Streit signing as a win right now kind of move. And while I like the idea of playing youth, I don't think Lauridsen is ready for full time NHL duty. - BulliesPhan87
Streit signing is an absolute WIN !
the guy is a hockey stud and will play top minutes in all situations just like Timonen. I'm extremely happy we got him locked in for 4 years. He solidifies our defence in many many ways. Team captain for Swiss team that beat Canada in Olympics. Team captain on the Isles. He's a couple years younger than Timonen but while Kimmo has played 1,015 games, Streit has only played 491.
He just rocked this past season with 27 pts in 48 reg games and 5pts in 6 playoff games. He's actually slightly taller and more weight than Kimmo.
and the cherry on the top, we didnt have to give up anything in trade.
How can you call this anything but a massive win for a deam that has obvious defensive issues? |

You need size and grit to play on the 3rd line. So if he can play on the 3rd line, then he can play on other lines also. He has the skills and all around game to play on any line. In any situation. - MJL
Ok, you won't stop talking about it, so you must be right. |

I don't put too much stock on last year. He is a good defensman at a reasonable cap hit. Replacing him would cost way more that 4.5 and I don't think there is a UFA better than Coby anyway. It"s all part of the proses of being patient and growing a team ...not trying to buy one. |

makes trading down look appealing - Don'tForgetTocchet
If you could get two of those players by trading the 11th for two later first rounders that would be the way to go. Not sure some of them will be there in the twenties though. |

I still think they need to rely on Coburn more offensively. He is a big guy, with a big shot, and someone I love having on the point. I wish they'd work the crap out of his O-game. |

To clarify, I meant a 'win now' move, as in a move to made specifically to make this team a cup competitor this season. I'm actually aight with the signing, leery about the term though. |

agreed, last season was a fluke in my opinion, and if it was full season i could see us in playoffs. Before the season last year, i thought we had a great chance to have a great run in playoffs. boy were my dreams crushed |

I think we all fear that he will break both his knees the second he steps on the ice in our home opener and be forced to retire as an over 35 contract.

I'm not thrilled at the number of years given up for his services, but I think he can help them.
I doubt I'd go so far as to say a "massive win", but I think Streit can help the team, almost certainly, provided he stays healthy. |

He will be 36, and is not going to be part of "my" team when it's time for them to compete for the cup. Besides, my personal opinion is that he really isn't that good in his own end and this team needs to be better in it's own end. They have guys that can make that highly touted "first pass". I need guys that can make smart plays when the pressure is on. |
