It should be noted that Winter has performed the "Bryz's defense wouldn't let him see the puck" same song and dance before. The agent said almost exactly the same thing ("how many of those goals allowed did he see?") in explaining away Bryzgalov's less-than-stellar playoff showing in 2010 and 2011 before his departure from Phoenix.
I remember being told repeatedly by posters on this site that the reason that Mike Smith did better as a Coyote in the playoffs than Bryz did is because the redwings were a juggernaught those 2 years and no goalie was going to look good against them. It wasn't Bryz's fault and to leave him alone. Mike Smith of course went .944sv% and 1.99gaa in the playoffs a year ago with the same team, same coach, and same defensive philosophy but what do i know. |

Edmonton. In other news, who do you think Vinnie Lecavalier signs with? I'd love to see him on the second line if his demands aren't unreasonable since he's getting Scrooge McDuck money to not play for the Lightning. |

The more I think about it, the less I want the team to pick a defenseman at 11. In a best case secenerio I would like to see them move up to 5 and select Nichushkin. It possible he falls to 7, but Edmonton would select him, and not trade the pick IMO. I would then trade either Laughton or Couturier for a prospect defenseman that has had time to develop. Maybe Erixon.
Would you do Couturier and Laughton for Erixon and Columbus 14th? Then move 11th and Coburn for the 5th overall? - youarewrong
No, not a chance in hell.
Maybe.
Are we all really back on the "Trade Couturier" bandwagon already?
And again, if we trade Coburn, we'll go diving back into FA and overpaying for another defenseman next year after we've lost Coburn, Timonen, and Meszaros. |

On Bryz and Winter. While the decision was right to buy him out, I think there was some truth behind what was said. Bryz did suffer because of the system. And I was saying a long time ago Reece and Bryz just didn't get along, and Lavi refused to adjust his system to fit Bryz's style of play.
You can say what you want about Bryz, but look at Lindy Ruff. He would change the system he played depending on his team. Bryz was signed for 9 years, it would have behooved the Flyers to adjust thier game to match his style.
I'm going to give Reece one last chance with Mason... then I'll call for his head. |

If you have Erixon, whoever the 14th pick is, Gustefsson, and one of Bourdon, Gostisbere, or Lauridsen we might not need to. Well maybe 1 top 4 guy, but the salary for the defense would be where it should be.

Can someone ask Winter if the Flyers were still blocking shots during the shootout, maybe Bryz didn't see those shots either? |

I was on the whole "Fire Lavvy" bandwagon fairly early on because I thought the system was a problem.
That said, did Bryz manage to see any of the pucks on those breakaways which he managed to never stop? Breakaways happen in hockey. It's not unreasonable for a goaltender to be expected to stop one every once in a while.
And I think you're giving a goalie coach more power than they really have. |

for every CBO, the flyers leverage increases, as teams have less $$ to allocate in goal might opt to stick w/ their current tandem. i think VAN blew it and will have to CBO Lu, lest they give torts another yr of goalie circus. |
