Yeah, maybe if there's a NTC or NMC, but like you said, if he's offering 8 years, there's likely no full on NMC

Shero can't back himself into a corner so he'll likely want a way out at some point of this deal via trade.

They have some really good looking depth on defense this will probably be a good thing for them to not re-sign him.

If he was a UFA now, he'd get $7.5mm easy, be amazed if he settles for $6.75mm

You think Letang declines the offer?

Watch all of London in the playoffs, I am a big fan on him but won't be disappointed if he isn't the pick.

LATEST ON LETANG
Letang was offered an eight-year contract at around $54 million (total), sources told the Tribune-Review. The Penguins' proposal contained little wiggle room, and the club would like to get a response — even in the form of a counter offer — by the weekend, the sources said.
Free agency begins July 5, and the Penguins do not want to arrive at that date without resolution on Letang's future, the sources said.
The Penguins are agreeable to paying Letang slightly over $7 million annually, sources said.

wow

This almost feels like the precursor to when J Staal left...though, they seem like they want to encourage Letang's camp to counter. Sounds like a no brainer for Letang's camp to counter for the "slightly over 7 million annually" if he wants to be a Pen.

Hearing that Letang camp informed Penguins earlier tonight that they were turning down an 8-year contract offer worth around $56 million...Whether more contract talks are coming or whether Pens put Letang on trade market remains to be seen...

By trade (then signing) or waiting it out another year and hitting the market?

Like our two friends above, I think it might hinge on the no trade clause

that is the interesting part

I think the Pens don't want to go into the season without him re signed

so a trade for the best deal I guess will happen

He was on NHL Tonight yesterday saying he thinks he's a franchise type goaltender. He coulld be right...or not...that's a relatively high risk pick in the top 10...but I like that Button goes with what he thinks, independently. We'll see if he's right...about Fucale and/or Morin.

That's a pretty good offer by the Pens. In todays game with the cap in play I wouldn't give any defenseman $7M+ per year (exception: Weber). I like Letang but he's not worth that much.

I think Fucale is more a pick fit to go in the 20's than top 10 but if somebody wants him they won't wait
