Holmgren is going to have to move a defenseman. Also, don't see him holding onto Read knowing his contract is up and will demand a significant raise. Top priorities will be Giroux, Schenn and Couturier.
- stveshdy

The top priority should be Giroux, followed by Read. Couturier and Schenn can wait.

Couturier for Erixon would be an absolute awful deal for the Flyers.
- MJL

I was giving an example, not what I think a deal would be. The idea was we need to trade either Couturier or Laughton for a young D-man almost ready for NHL like Erixon. Whether a pick comes back with whoever, or goes as part of a deal, I dont care.

The Flyers will make those young guys priority. Nothing against Read but those other three are the future.

I wouldn't wait on Couturier or Schenn. Your just asking for an offer sheet the Flyers might not be able to match, and if they do, it will hurt the team...

Doubtful. We have to wait until Hinkie is done making trades first.

Has more to do with the rules of the CBA that the Flyers can take advantage of to get them all signed. Rather then who is the future. Read signed to good contract has far more trade value then Read who in the last year of his deal and is an impending UFA.

I don't expect Read to be here this season.

An Offer Sheet can't come until July 1, 2014. In my scenario, they will be re-signed long before that.

I think we need to tweak the team and be patient at the same time. Reorganize the youth I would call it. Get the 5th overall from Carolina for Coburn and the 11th. Trade Couturier or Laughton for a young d-man coming up in the system like Erixon, and try and sign either Lecavalier or Richards for the second line. Then stay patient with the team we have, while adding vets to compete.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Richards/Lecavalier-Simmonds
Read-Couturier/Laughton-Nichushkin
McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Streit
Gustefsson-Meszaros

Erixon or whoever would be injury replacement and be ready for Timonen's retiring.

Mason
Thomas

Now that would be a balanced team to develop:
On Wing:
Voracek, Simmonds, Nichushkin, Schenn
Center:
Giroux, Couturier/Laughton, Cousins
Defense:
Gustefsson, Erixon, Schenn, Gostisbere
Goalie:
Mason

- youarewrong

I was under the impression that Erixon isn't really a top prospect anymore

The Flyers better get a far better player in a trade for Couturier then a player like Erixon.

There are plenty of teams to trade with that have cap space to sign Read to an extension. The Flyers don't want to move any of those young players so imo the only guys with trade value are Read & Coburn. Not sure what they will get in return but those two are best for moving to obtain what your looking for.

This isn't SixersBuzz, but I like what he did.

They were going to stink with or without Holiday. They'll be in the lottery next year in a deeper draft. What's one more year of the Sixers stinking?

It's so hard in the NBA to go from an also-ran to a contender. In that league, you have to get REALLY bad before you can get really good.

At least in the NHL, you can draft/trade/sign your way into respectability/contention, although results with each approach may vary.

Overexaggeration. They have young defenseman in Ghostibhere, Lauridsen and Alt. They have forward prospects such as Laughton, McGinn, and Cousins. And Goalie prospects such as Stolarz, and there is another young goalie whose name escapses me. That Holmgren said they were high on. Plus they signed some undrafed Free Agents.

Hockey Future's has the Flyers ranked 30 out 30. I guess the folks there are clueless.

I dont agree. Read would be an incredible pick-up for any team that needs to add scoring for the playoffs but doesn't have cap space to add a bigger name. Plus the team can always begin negotiations early.

If I'm the Flyers I wait until the TDL to decide on contracts. If your not in the playoff race, Read should be traded. If you are, then you cant afford to trade Read and then he becomes a proirity to sign.

I wish we would get the ideas of trading Sean Couturier or Brayden Schenn out of our heads. Who is this Russian Lindros everyone is talking about? Whoever he is, if you're gonna compare him to the Big E, he better be playing at the same level as Malkin. I have zero interest in giving up Schenn or Couturier before we can see what they can do.

Sam Hinkie slipped Homer some of his leftover Ritalin from last night. Homer's spinning like a top working four phones at once.

The guys on NHL xm radio this morning said the Flyers have interest in Ference.

34 years old.

I'd rather keep Coburn, but whatever.

No more older defenseman. Have to get some younger players. Why not look at Jon Blum? He is a RFA though.

ugh. Miss the point again. Your about a pourus as a brick wall. I said Couturier OR Laughton. I said I WASNT putting a deal together. I was giving an example. You want to use a different player... fine... Morgan Reily. But of course now your going to say no way Couturier can get you Reiley....

I don't think the farm system is great but its not terrible either.
- stveshdy

Agreed. I think, if they can avoid spending picks or prospects on trades to help now (shouldn't be too hard, but... y'know), they can have a decent pipeline in the short term future.
