Hockey Future's has the Flyers ranked 30 out 30. I guess the folks there are clueless.

It would look a lot better if Couts was playing in the minors. I also believe Ghost, Alt and Laughton's stock have gone up since it was written.
They are dead on about the goalie prospects. This team has nothing except for Stolarz. Cal Heeter has the upside of a backup. I wouldnt be surprised if their second rounder was a goalie. Just like last year. |

ugh. Miss the point again. Your about a pourus as a brick wall. I said Couturier OR Laughton. I said I WASNT putting a deal together. I was giving an example. You want to use a different player... fine... Morgan Reily. But of course now your going to say no way Couturier can get you Reiley.... - youarewrong
I get your point. The Flyers need to find a way to get some younger defenseman. Be nice if that defenseman was a good skater/puck mover. |

Sam Hinkie just traded the Kate Smith statue and Chase Utley for Thomas Vanek. |

This isn't SixersBuzz, but I like what he did.
They were going to stink with or without Holiday. They'll be in the lottery next year in a deeper draft. What's one more year of the Sixers stinking?
It's so hard in the NBA to go from an also-ran to a contender. In that league, you have to get REALLY bad before you can get really good.
At least in the NHL, you can draft/trade/sign your way into respectability/contention, although results with each approach may vary. - johndewar
Last comment about Sixers. I promise. I just hate the fact that the trade guarantees they will be bad for at least 3-4 more years. And that's if everything works out! |

I wish we would get the ideas of trading Sean Couturier or Brayden Schenn out of our heads. Who is this Russian Lindros everyone is talking about? Whoever he is, if you're gonna compare him to the Big E, he better be playing at the same level as Malkin. I have zero interest in giving up Schenn or Couturier before we can see what they can do. - dingo8urbaby
Nichushkin has been compaired to both Lindros and Malkin. I have heard he has Malkin's moves and shot with Lindros' willingness to use his body.
The knock... He is Russian. May be a selfish player, and may be "lazy" sometimes.... But they say this about almost every Russian player. |

Totally agree on this.
As a matter of fact, I think it's the only thing that's a sure thing that the Flyers will do in the draft. |

If he was anywhere close to Lindros, he'd far and away be the top pick in the draft.
Every top draft eligible player is compared to a past or present player for some reference. Often, the comparisons do not do the young players any favors. |

With all the goalies that come out of late rounds, I would just take goalies in round 5, 6, & 7. Its unlikey any skaters will become NHL players in those rounds, but your likely a goalie will emerge. Like Lundquist. |

Regardless of where they take a goalie, they need to take one and maybe two.
The talent pool in the Flyers organization, as far as goaltenders are concerned, is less a pool and more like a small puddle.

"NHL prospects considered for these rankings meet HF's prospect criteria at the time the list is published."
Meaning they don't take into account the kids that are already in the NHL.
The Flyers really are 30 out of 30... habit of trading picks away, and the subsequent over-reliance on CHL overagers and college UFA's has really done a number on depth.
They really have to hang on to their picks for the next handful of drafts... they're not always going to have players like Richards/Carter to use for restocking the cupboard. |

The Flyers will have eight NHL defensemen on their roster once they officially announce Mark Streit's contract. While you can never have enough defensemen, it'll be hard for the Flyers to enter next season with their current group. Not counting Chris Pronger, Philly's defensemen will account for over 43 percent of the team's payroll next season despite only accounting for 30 percent of the roster, according to Philly.com. That leads beat writer Frank Seravalli to think someone will be dealt, with Braydon Coburn's $4.5 million cap hit the most likely suspect. The Flyers would surely like to hold onto the 28-year-old blueliner, but his age, size and speed make him their best trading chip. The Oilers and Flames are reportedly interested in Coburn, but keep an eye out for Anaheim, which is reportedly seeking a top-four defenseman in any trade for sniper Bobby Ryan.

The Flyers are such good drafters in the first round that I wouldn't advocate selecting a goalie because of the risk. I would much rather them take at least a couple of goalies between rounds 2-7 in every draft. |

I never understood the "Defenseman are taking up too much of the cap" thing. Pronger is going to LTIR so he doesn't count. Many of the forwards are still on entry level deals or their first contract. Kimmo and Mez will be off next year when the young guys need to be paid |

With our goaltending "luck" we should be taking multiple goalies every draft, all in the later rounds.. I also would be surprised to see Carolina take the trade of 11th + Cobourn for the 5th but time will tell.. Theres always a shock on draft day |
