If they're just looking to move salary then they will look to trade Mez. If they want value back, they will look to move Coburn.
I still don't see why they can't make room for read. What is his estimated salary? Does anyone know? - PhillySportsGuy
Somewhere around 4 I would guess. They can absolutely re-sign Matt Read. |

It's pretty barren down there. The Flyers don't have much depth compared to other teams. The upside for many of their amateur players is fairly low.
It's all relative. We know the system well, so it seems alright, but other teams have potential future top line talent or top pairing talent or starting goalie talent. - PhillySportsGuy
The Flyers best young players are already in the NHL. It may not be as strong compared to other teams, but it is not barren. |

So what was the story behind this exactly? I don't have sound and I'm not from Philly. - dingo8urbaby
The fire alarm went off during the interview, Barkann proclaimed, "Another goal scored!" Holmgren was not amused. |

The likelihood that those will become wasted draft picks is so high it's almost not even worth it... might as well reach for a forward with question marks or a late-bloomer D.
The best way to get a goalie is to trade for one around age 20-24... by that time you know they won't be a complete bust, but they still don't have enough experience to really drive up the cost. Like Tuukka Rask. - Tomahawk
Or like Steve Mason? |

I know. We were strictly talking about amateur players though. Not including Couts or Schenn. I'm not too worried about forward depth. If the Flyers take a dman with the 11th overall pick, I won't be worried about defenseman depth. I'm more worried about goalie depth. They will never get their goalie issues fixed until they start spending more draft picks and time developing them. |

That's what i've been saying. I know Carolina is desperate for defense, but I can't imagine another team not willing to shell out more for that pick - PhillySportsGuy
Another team would have to be willing to move a top 4 defenseman and a high pick for that pick... What teams between Carolina and the Flyers can do that?
Definately not Calgary at 6. They need defense and will not move a top 4 for 1 spot.
Not Edmonton either at 7. They are also desperate for defense.
Buffalo would be interested with the 8th and 16th, but that doesnt address Carolina's need for a top 4.
I don't believe the Devils will be trading defense to move up for Nichushkin, or if any defenseman they have and will be willing to trade would be as good as Coburn.
That leaves Dallas, and I dont believe they are in a position to move a top 4 either. |

Well there is Stolarz, and Holmgren mentioned another Goalie who he said they were high on. His name escapes me. And I wouldn't be surprised to see them draft at least one Goalie on Sunday. |

Dallas could move robidas with their pick. Edmonton could move a young dman then flip one of their young forwards for a more established dman. Don't think so narrowly. Their are several creative ways to do things. |

You can't handcuff yourself like that. You need to trust your scouting. The idea of throwing darts at a board in round 5-7 isn't what I want the team to do. - PhillySportsGuy
What is pretty much what every team does from round 5-7.. throw darts blindly.
Do you realize that rounds 2-7 only take 2.5 hours? That is 180 picks in 150 minutes. Not exactly a ton of time to deliberate. Its much like throwing darts..
Thus the Nick Luuko pick.... |

That jock strap is young, its trade value will increase. |
