I can't believe there hasn't been anybody who's responded on this point yet... there are a lot of cap floor teams that would love to capitalize on the difference between his real salary and cap hit plus add an offensive contributor... Islanders and the Coyotes come to mind.

If Briere gets picked off waivers, the Flyers would still have a CBO available... hmmmmm.

- Tomahawk

Briere's NMC means he gets to skip waivers.

I was wondering the same thing about if Briere is claimed, does that still count as a CBO?

And wouldn't it make sense to put players on waivers first before using the CBO? I'm hoping someone on here can explain the waivers/salary cap ramifications for me.

If I were the Flyers, I would start negotiating right now based on that contract. Get him signed before free agency hits and some average players gets paid $5M
- PhillySportsGuy

Agreed. If we an get him at around 3.5 mil for 4 years friggin do it

Ignorance and racism are prevalent on both sides of the Mason-Dixon, but the key difference in the South is that their racism/ignorance is rooted in a history of subjugation based on notions of racial superiority.... and it's not only Paula Dean that's waxing nostalgic about the good ol' days.

I grew up in the South, btw.

Racism will always exist. It's a long process to change the views of people. It takes generations. I can tell you that my parents generation (Baby boomers) did a great job of creating change in regards to racism and sexism.

I'd hate to tell ya, but white people use more government money than all minorities combined.
- PhillySportsGuy

I'd sure hope so, they make up 72.4% of the entire population of America.

Welfare Breakdown:
Whites: 38.8% (72.4% of the population)
Blacks: 37.2% (12.6% of the population)
Hispanic: 17.8% (Weird how its broken down on charts... but i'm guessing 10-15%)

Carolina is desperate for defenseman, but I think it would be a steal to move up to the 5th spot and only give up Coburn and the 11th. I feel like other teams would be willing to offer a better package.

Here's hoping because if this is the case, I would simply buyout Meszaros if he can be deemed healthy. Of course his health is still up in the air. Did I read he would be healthy in July?

we know the 48hrs are up and we can buy out Briere and Brzyl.. but they must clear waivers first....

My question what would stop anyteam picking up briere's Cap hit of 6.5m with a salary of 3m and 2m in the next two years?

If I'm the islanders or Devils, I would rather have briere with his current contract than resigning him to a 1 or 2 year deal at 3-4 per!!!!

I guess my question is can players being bought out and going the the waiver process, can they be claimed? If so are there players out on waivers the flyers can pick-up?

Well they could always go for Marc Staal. Better than anything we could offer them.

Briere had a full no-movement clause in his contract, which included no waivers for purposes of burying his contract (when that was allowed). These waivers, however, are part of the CBO process and buyouts are the one and only thing that a NMC doesn't cover. So, yes, the buyout would still count as one used by the Flyers.

I wonder if they refer to Americans as 'English'.
