Briere had a full no-movement clause in his contract, which included no waivers for purposes of burying his contract (when that was allowed). These waivers, however, are part of the CBO process and buyouts are the one and only thing that a NMC doesn't cover. So, yes, the buyout would still count as one used by the Flyers.

it still counts a buyout?? interesting

Even if Briere is claimed by another team? There is intent to buyout so it makes sense.

You need to move to Utah or something -- you're obviously a victim of oppression.

Just make sure to ask them in Spanish. I hear they get upset if you don't.

Last time I was in Miami, I went for some coffee and the sign read, "No Spanish, No Service".

I just looked around a bit. The stats vary depending on who wrote the article. (Liberal vs Conservative). Most of them said that hispanics have become more dependent on welfare over the past 10 years. Blacks have become less dependent and whites have pretty much stayed the same.

I believe your point is somewhat valid, but it is certainly more difficult for non-whites to get jobs than whites.

I really would like them to draft Rasmus Ristolainen - I think he could play next year.
- flyersfan51

Just got back from a much needed vacation so if this was bantered about earlier, I apologize.

I can seen Homer's head swirling in a couple of directions.

One would try and more up to get the player he's quietly salivating over. Another would be to move down, grab a couple of picks (Clb 19 and 27?) and pick up Furcale and whomever else they like at that point. My guess would be a defenseman. This would satisfy Mr. Snyder's apparent new quest - to draft and develop D and G's.

Unless there are no real surprises (which there usually are), I don't see any must-haves at #11. The ceiling from #6 on all seem to be pretty high, and the Flyers have been pretty good at seeing talent in the later first round.

Can a team still claim him? With the old contract?

It doesn't seem like it should, though.... he'd still be playing under the old contract... so technically a buyout never occurred.

This years' UFA could be the best since 2000. The year such players as Eric Lindros, John LeClair, Jeremy Roenick and many others were free to go anywhere they'd like. Except I believe Lindros had a clause that he had to be traded or something. Someone refresh my memory on the status of Lindros' contract and who was a UFA that summer.

Really jumping from one topic to the next here man...

Welfare statistics are provided by the government. That site I gave you is using 2010's #'s if i'm not mistaken.

Remember though, in politics all politicians use made up %'s to make their cause seem factual. Nothing factual about statistics.

This is an off the wall idea, but hear it goes.

Say the Flyers put together a one year 12M offer sheet for Pietrangelo. The Blues don't match and take the picks. The Flyers then trade this years first along with Read and Coburn to separate teams. They can then recoup at least 3 of the 4 first rounders. Maybe more if they need to move more salary.

Then they sign Pietrangelo to en extension starting next season at a more reasonable price of 7.5M over 8 years.

agreed

the cap recapture thing creating punishments for contracts filed under the previous cba also seems legally dubious to me

The stats are based on estimates and can be interpreted differently. Let's just get back to hockey.
