I just looked around a bit. The stats vary depending on who wrote the article. (Liberal vs Conservative). Most of them said that hispanics have become more dependent on welfare over the past 10 years. Blacks have become less dependent and whites have pretty much stayed the same.

I believe your point is somewhat valid, but it is certainly more difficult for non-whites to get jobs than whites.

- PhillySportsGuy

FWIW, my point isn't somewhat valid. It is exactly what it is. That's the % of the population. That's the % of welfare recipients.

Can a team still claim him? With the old contract?
- huks99

I believe what Bill explained was that the waivers does not apply to Briere because the CBO supercedes the NMC in Briere's contract. No team can claim Briere because waivers does not apply to him. Maybe guys like Kaberle would be able to be claimed off waivers since he probably didn't have a NMC clause.

EDIT- not Bill. Saw this explanation on another site. Will try and find it again.

I really would like them to draft Rasmus Ristolainen - I think he could play next year.

The stats are based on estimates and can be interpreted differently. Let's just get back to hockey.
- PhillySportsGuy

If you say so.

Just wanted to clear up what you said to be misleading, is all.

This is an off the wall idea, but hear it goes.

Say the Flyers put together a one year 12M offer sheet for Pietrangelo. The Blues don't match and take the picks. The Flyers then trade this years first along with Read and Coburn to separate teams. They can then recoup at least 3 of the 4 first rounders. Maybe more if they need to move more salary.

Then they sign Pietrangelo to en extension starting next season at a more reasonable price of 7.5M over 8 years.

It doesn't seem like it should, though.... he'd still be playing under the old contract... so technically a buyout never occurred.
- Tomahawk

That's what I would think.

There's white people and then there's the rest. Women should stay in the kitchen. Everyone from Asia is Chinese, and everyone else is either white, black, or Mexican.

It would be a possible way to acquire a franchise defenseman without trading Coots, Schenn or Laughton and crushing the next 4 years of drafts.

I still think St. Louis would match it though.

So okay, the Flyers decide to somehow sidestep the salary cap and sign Pietrangelo and give up the 1st round picks in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
The Flyers trade their 2013 1st, Read, and Coburn to separate teams for...what exactly?. How are the recouping 3 of those 4 (really 5 since you're trading the 2013 1st rounder) 1st round picks? I'm missing something here.

Don't think you can offer above the max salary allowed though. Not sure what it is this year, but i'm pretty sure 12mil is over it!

If it were allowed, i'd be behind you 100%.

Racism will always exist. It's a long process to change the views of people. It takes generations. I can tell you that my parents generation (Baby boomers) did a great job of creating change in regards to racism and sexism.
- PhillySportsGuy

Look, I dont want to be a bad guy, but racism is not just white people hating everyone non-white. I'm getting tired of this. As long as people use racism as an excuse, racism will still exist. I would say in this day and age white people have more hate directed toward them then just about any other race... And you know why... because we allow it. We feel the need to apologize for what our grandparents and great-great grandparents did. Then there are people like Jessie Jackson who make money by push a race-hate agenda. The only way to limit racism is for the country to not make any special interest regarding race. No affirmative action, no grants based on race. No race indicators on any application to anything. No governement support to origanizations set up to aid specific races. Once you address the idea race doesnt matter, and cant be used for or against anyone will racism start to go away.

20% of $64M would be $12.8M. That's the max. Still, that crazy salary cap thing would still have to be slain.

Briere had a full no-movement clause in his contract, which included no waivers for purposes of burying his contract (when that was allowed). These waivers, however, are part of the CBO process and buyouts are the one and only thing that a NMC doesn't cover. So, yes, the buyout would still count as one used by the Flyers.
- bmeltzer

If Briere has to pass waivers and has a chance to be claimed by a team he doesn't want to play for, wouldn't it be in his best interest to accept a trade then. Something doesn't seem right.

We got out to an early lead on that one although the Lightning are surging. Who can commit to the most money paid outside of the cap?
