Yeah, definitely. Leading scorer "retires" a week after free agency so there's nobody else left available to sign at this point to replace him, the Devils lose their 1st round pick next year over the deal to begin with, and they are penalized a quarter mil a year against the cap for the next dozen years.

I'm sure Lou will sleep like a baby tonight knowing that he's just lost a career top-line ppg player (816 games played, 816 points), next years' 1st rounder, Zach Parise, and a quarter mil reminder against the cap for the next 12 years ... All for nothing.

It (frank)ed them (at least in the short term) ... Right in the (frank)ing corn hole.

Lou may not have wanted him, but they're now left without a top line left winger, they let Parise walk to make the deal, and they lost next year's first rounder.

6.6 per is not a ton of money for a world-class top line scoring talent, regardless of his "fit".

Cap space right now doesn't help them, and no matter how bad they are this year they still have no chance at a lottery pick.

The timing on this is poor ... Totally handcuffs the team for next season.
