Here is my opinion on Ryan
I am 100% positive that the second Ryan can play for Philly, he will. I am NOT willing to give up Nino for 2 years of Ryan. Also Ryan already plays with Getzlaf, so I don't see Ryan putting up more than 5-7 goals more on JT's wing. - Danformo
how are you so sure?
and philly is digging themselves into a hole with all these big contracts...will they be able to afford BR? |

I agree. Rather not give up the pieces for Ryan. He has Philly on the brain. Let's see what Nino, Nelson, and Strome can do for the Isles. |

I understand that and I would love to see these team keep taking steps forward. If they do take one back due to the amount of kids breaking into the roster then I'm okay with it. If they send them to bridgeport and resign pandolfo then I'll probably go postal (just an example, it's not happening)
Dying to see if Nelson, Nino, Strome and Donovan can all make the roster. I don't think so, but it would be one hell of a young team. - Isles_since_6
If we don't sign any decent FA I can
Strome could probably replace Boyes easily on JT Rw
Nino could atleast play 3rd line LW if not 1st Line winger on JT
Nelson could probably play 3rd center minimum
and Donovan it ready for bottom minutes and some PP time
Strome>Boyes
Nelson>Aucoin
Nino >Boyes |

I think this is one of the rare occasions where the players actual cost as compared to their cap hit has to be considered. When you ask a team to cover $70 million over 6 years and allow the contract to spread the damage over 14 years it becomes a significant piece of your cap. In the case of Reinhart, he'd go through his ELC and then his first vet contract that I seriously doubt would approach the amount and tenure that Weber's does no matter how good he is. In addition, if you have build a team that has a couple of other high impact players, you're now left with either the choice of losing another elite player or signing crap for the rest of your team.
My bigger issue is, while I think Weber is arguably the best dman in the league, I don't think he's so far ahead of the other top five that I could justify a contract like that. His offensive stats are 'good', not $14 million annual good. I just think I'd prefer to see a shorter commitment than that.
I'm sure if it happened I wouldn't scream bloody murder, but I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire a contract like that.

Well, the money part of it is because Paul Holmgren doesn't have one of these:
That said, I'd take 6 or 7 years of watching him play, especially if he helps us win. He's not that much better than the other great defensemen; I just believe he's that much more potentially available, because of the contract. By the way.....Letang isn't worth anywhere NEAR what he is worth. He's not even remotely the player Weber is in his own end of the ice, regardless of how much he scores. |

Yeah....but MOST of that struggle will be because they have no ACTUAL money. Once we get to Brooklyn, we won't have that problem, for sure, and I doubt we really have it now. If you're going to have a nucleus of two great offensive players, at least one great defenseman, and one great goalie, chances are that all of their cap hits are going to be between $6-8M, at least. You might be able to finagle the goalie situation, but you're probably going to need the other three of those assets in order to perpetually contend, especially one superstar on offense, and one guy on the back end who is top shelf. That's why the cap hit doesn't bother me. Some guys are worth the money- he would be one of them. - dcb1
This actually did cause me to research something regarding Webber's contract which was how the Luongo rule would effect his cap hit if he were to reitre a few years early. It turns out his contract doesn't appear to really be too effected by it, which certainly makes it a bit more attractive than I originally perceived. His cap hit is higher than his actual salary over the last 8 years of his contract. Interesting.

Ryan is on record for saying he would like to/wants to play for Philly. When he was on Ducks trade block he asked Ducks to be sent to Philly |

If one of the forwards makes it and Donovan and Snow adds a reliable steady Dman and a legit starter we are good. Of course if everybody plays the way they should. These aren't unrealistic expectations at all IMO. Now the other side of this is if Snow doesn't sign a tender and these kids aren't ready and he doesn't fill those holes... Well you know the rest. |

last rookie camp and training camp I didn't find strome to be that quick, maybe my expectations were too high or the poopty internet feed wasn't running properly, but I'm interested to see him now. - Isles_since_6
I agree. I trust the scouting reports and firsthand accounts people have posted. And he did look like a better player in the limited games I saw him play in at BPort compared to the preseason before the 2011-2012 season. But from the admittedly few times I've seen him, I haven't really been blown away. I'm really curious to see what he brings to camp this year.

Its not but it is an improvement.
I am not worried about throwing Nelson Nino and Strome into the fire. Nino would shine with JT |

Absolutely. That and these kids have the potential to get better, way better. Boyes no. Acoin no. Strome, Nino, Nelson, Donovan. Yes yes yes yes. I see it as an immediate improvement from last season unless of course none of them are ready but if even two of them are we are in better shape already. |

Sounding more and more like the Isles are the only possible trade partner w/ Vancouver because no team will give an asset up for Lou's contract. Meanwhile, Vancouver is insisting they can get SOMETHING. Of course the other question is would Luongo even consider coming back here?
Staple says the Isles would be interested if Lou is bought out.
More due dilligence on the way!

actually I could have sworn I remember reading this year that the Isles were on the list of teams Lu would be willing to go to.
Don't quote me though |

other than being thanked for proposing a deal, no one commented on this proposal..
Bobby Ryan + Jonas Hiller
Nino/KO + 1st + Poulin + Dehaan + 2nd round 2014 - LetsGoIsles
I would do it if it's Nino in the package...then all you would need to do is pickup a defenseman in FA like Ferrance or Scuderi... |

Every year we all sit here and banter and speculate on who we may get or hope we could get...every year we all are left feeling a little let down (or a lot). This year I'm afraid will be no different, maybe worse, because this year we mostly all thought something would change......the closer we get the more I feel that is going to be true...may end out being a good thing in time but HELL I JUST WANT THEM TO MAKE A BIG SPLASH FOR A CHANGE!!!!! |

because they have NO intention of buying out DP, so if they are going to pay that amount, they might as well get a starting goaltender that is top 15 in this league & can play.

I guess Garth is looking at the last three years of Luongo contract...I guess they didn't teach me this logic in business school when I got my MBA... |

According to Cap Geek, Vancouver is right up against the cap...so if I was Garth I would wait it out...or trade DP for Luongo... |

which is probably why DP hasn't been bought out yet. Snow's dangling him until the Canucks buyout Luongo or decide to keep him.

Probably. Wouldn't mind getting Luongo either for little to no assets or through buyout(preferred of course).Luongo on a two or three yr deal would be a great thing. I do feel he will have quite a few suitors if he gets bought out though... |
