Panaccio: Flyers talking to St. Louis about Halak. It will take a good player, but not a top guy.

Halak for Read sounds like a solid hockey trade, each having one year left on current contracts |

He was Sweden's answer to Denis Gauthier... I think that makes him a Styf. |

Read is the only guy I can think of that isnt Schenn or Couturier or a defenseman that the Blues clearly dont need. |

Just...it's amazing how one franchise can collect a set of beat writers that are all collectively awful.
I miss Les Bowen and Edward Moran from the Daily News. That's the last time anybody covered the Flyers with any degree of common sense mixed with competent coverage. - AllInForFlyers
Is it just me or does Pannach look like Mario after 30 years of plumbing and drinking? |

Agreed -- which is why it won't get done. Too many teams feel like they have to win deals, so I'm sure St. Louis will say something like, "oh, well, throw in a third-round pick and it's done." |

Flyers had a tough time scoring goals last year at times. Briere is gone, and if Read is traded, there is some gaping holes up front.

Blues don't need wingers either, though. With Rattie coming up, and Tarasenko firmly on the scene, they're looking to move Perron to free some room.
Not sure the Flyers and Blues are great trade partners... Blues probably only need an elite offensive center... and last I checked, Flyers only had 1 of those. |

Depending on who we give I'd be for it. #1 priority for me is making sure the goalie we get is compatible with our system. That was a big problem with Bryzgalov, and would be a big problem for Emery if he came here. I don't know Halak's playing style, but the untradeables for me in this situation are (Obviously) Giroux, Voracek, BSchenn, Coots, and Simmer. If we could get Halak for Read than that wouldn't be too bad. |

Oh! Sorry, Bill! I read your stuff every day, obviously, because you are quite easily the best guy out there covering this team. - AllInForFlyers
What is amazing is Im not even sure Bill gets paid to do this. It is a travesty that bill doesnt have his own colum in a local paper. He must not have done a lot of back-room favors. |

The addition of Streit's passing game should help on outlet passes, and will lead to a lot more offense. |

Very true... Hoping Hartnell can regain some scoring touch, Couts/Schenn have room to grow, and im thinking G and Voracek will remind us all why we praise them both. IMO Read is as good as gone so its just about what can we get for him |

I think the best rule to follow would be for Flyers fans not to click on a single news story from any of the court jesters. Lack of clicks is probably the best way for them to be replaced. |

Who would carry the load if this trade happens? Or does Halak and Mason split it to see gets the contract extension? |

Read is a very good player. He's strong in all aspects. His current cap hit makes him one of the biggest bargains in the NHL for what he provides. 20 goal scorer who can move up and down the lineup and contribute solidly on special teams.
I understand he will be due a significant raise, I would like to see the Flyers lock him up. A case can be made that Read is the Flyers best overall forward. |

Don't think that's going to happen. He and Coburn are their best trade chips. Flyers looking to fill needs immediately. Won't trade the young guys so someone has to go and it looks like Read is going to be that guy. I like Read a lot also. |
