Don't think that's going to happen. He and Coburn are their best trade chips. Flyers looking to fill needs immediately. Won't trade the young guys so someone has to go and it looks like Read is going to be that guy. I like Read a lot also.

They need Coburn to bounce back, and Read to provide his steady play in all areas. If they trade these guys, not sure how they will be improving. We shall see what happens.

Read is a very good player. He's strong in all aspects. His current cap hit makes him one of the biggest bargains in the NHL for what he provides. 20 goal scorer who can move up and down the lineup and contribute solidly on special teams.

I understand he will be due a significant raise, I would like to see the Flyers lock him up. A case can be made that Read is the Flyers best overall forward.

Giroux is by far the Flyers best player hands down. But he has a bunch of lapses in his own end. Right now he's average at best defensively.

I know Giroux is a very solid faceoff guy, but I would like to see his PK minutes reduced.

I was there when they won in 1980. I was at the parade, sat 5 rows back in JFK when they made their speeches. Tugger, Schmitty, Dallas Green would have been vilified had they spoken like that.

No doubt about it. I don't think the sentiment was totally off-base, but even with his struggles Claude is far and away the best player on the team. Read's still a damn good player, his value comes from a far more than just his cap hit.

Agreed. I'm on board with moving Read in the right deal if they are unable to extend his contract. But I don't think Read for Halak is the right deal. Value-wise it may be fair, but it just doesn't make sense to me. St. Louis has 3 goalies so in their mind they hold all the cards, but in my mind, it also means they really do have to move one. Not that they should give one away, but in the end, Homer needs to try and low-ball them in my opinion knowing that STL will have to move 1 unless they want to send Allen down which I don't see happening.

If the price is Read or too much, I pass and sign an Emery or Greiss or someone else from FA. I like Halak, but we have to keep in mind, despite his outstanding 2.14 GAA and 3 shutouts in 16 games last season, he only had an .899 sv%. Yes it's a small sample size, but most will be influenced by the 2.14 GAA.

Not terrible but also not amazing. Read for Halak is an over payment IMHO- guy is a back up with a below .900 sv% last year. Unless all UFA options sign elsewhere and the flyers are left with no other options I do not trade Read for him. They currently have plenty of FREE UFA options to fill this need (obviously it will cost money). So I do not want them to trade for Halak until they check the UFA market first.

Ah....I like Vinny Lecavalier and the things he can bring (size, skill).

I just don't want to pay him 5million dollars for 5 years.

Term-wise (Vinny is 33), I'm thinking 2 or 3 years at between 3 and 4 million dollars would be something I'd find fascinating. The guy is already getting paid by Tampa. Why do I need to make him even wealthier?

FWIW, it's not a direction I want the Flyers to pursue. If Homer goes into full-on Sam Hinkie mode and starts trading off assets left and right this weekend (especially tall centers that aren't old enough to drink yet), Lecavalier would certainly be an option I'd become a bigger fan of.

He had a down half-year. He is a starter. He had a .926 in 46 games in 11-12 for the blues. Negating this last bad year, he has a career .918. Bryz has a .913 career. If Halak is more compatible with our system (don't know that he is), then he can be a very solid 1A goalie with Mason.
