That roster player better be a 20 minute a night defenseman. - Feanor
Has Sam Gagner signed that rumored contract extension yet? |

I dont really like anyone on that team, that they would probably be willing to trade.
Hemsky and Horcoff are hideous. Jones and Brown are good ditch-diggers but kind of meh. |

Coburn, # 11, add another piece for Schultz and # 7. I would sign up for that. |

That's why I wouldn't be shocked if he went 5th to the Cains.
BTW, I don't like Halak or Birkenstocks. |

But that's no reason to not do it -- you can't be scared based on what's gone before. Every year is it's own, separate thing.
Chris Pronger, Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer were all top 5 picks. Drew Doughty. Alex Pietrangelo.
You can't be scared when you do this stuff. If the evaluation is what it is, you can't be scared. - AllInForFlyers
The constant is, and it's been mentioned here before ad-nauseum, you really have no way of knowing how 18-year-old dmen and goalies are going to pan out on draft day, even the 'can't miss' ones. |

I don't see this happening, as I agree edmonton has nothing on their roster that would fill a need for the flyers.
Now, if it was coburn and the 11th for their 7th and someone like Teemu Hartikainen I would be interested, but thats never happening. |

FYI there has been nothing out of Winnipeg about possible extensions of Bogosian, Burmistrov, Little or Wheeler.
In this city, weird for there to be so little "smoke".
Mark Stuart is an intriguing name, cheap contract. |

Exactly -- that's why you trust your evaluation and do what's best.
It's not that I'm saying "Seth Jones or bust." I'm saying that if you have a defenseman rated highly enough, then no one should scurry away from a deal simply because he's a defenseman and there's more risk involved.
Again, there's risk in all of this. Just because there's less risk with forwards doesn't mean there is no risk -- Pavel Brendl, Pat Falloon, Alexandre Daigle have all been mentioned, as well. |

I love Bogo. Little injury risk with him, but his best years are ahead of him. He really would be a perfect Flyer |

So have not been following draft details much. Would trading from 11 --> 7 give us a better shot at a defenseman, or is this more to do with defenseman logjam and trading a commodity in Coburn? |

Of course it would. TSN has become a joke. A Canadian team has to be mentioned in everything.
Dreger goes on to list Carolina is a possible partner as well. |

If they already owned the 2nd-overall pick, I'd be more than willing to gamble it all on Jones.
However, I'm not trading Couturier, 11 and Coburn just for a shot at spinning the roulette wheel. |

I'm pretty 50/50 on it all, glad I am not Holmgren.
The one side of the whole "trading up" thing I can see, is that I would agree this team needs more actual star power. |

I agree with that -- while you'll always need dependable second, third and fourth-liners, as well as steady defenseman, let's just say that I'm not surprised that the last two times the Flyers went to the Cup finals were teams that were fronted by Eric Lindros and 26-minute playing Chris Pronger. |

Aside from not being qualified to be a GM, I'm not emotionally suited to being in that sort of position. If I'd been Homer the other day, when Barkann made his funny... I'd have ripped one of Mikey's arms off and beaten the snot out of him with it. |

Still, neither was drafted by the Flyers. Id be ok if they traded Coburn and the 11th to get a higher draftpick, and that's mainly due to getting rid of salary. But I would in not way trade Coots, too much of a gamble. |

I always think of drafting defensemen a little like drafting a pitcher in baseball.
Some take more time than others and guys that are great at one level may be average or meh at a higher level. |

Dreger was on Ottawa sports radio an hour ago, was asked about general trade rumours at the draft. He mentioned a few names, then did mention Edmonton and Carolina have interest in Coburn, and he is apparently available.
Coburn and 11th for Smid and 7th?
MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin, Barkov are the for sure top 4. Lindholm, Nichushkin, Monahan are the 5-7 rated prospects according to Bobby Mac. Nurse would possibly be on the board at 7 as well.
Timonen-Schenn
Grossmann-Streit
Smid-Gus
And we grab one of the above 5-8 prospects? Sign me up. |
