that opinion is valid, and also has zero relation to my comment that someone saying we need to replace briere is dumb. - Don'tForgetTocchet
it depends on what is meant by replace briere. if that is narrowly defined, i would agree, but if it just means adding another scorer to play in the top 6 and/or PP, i don't think that would be dumb. |

I don't think Matt Read fetches a first round pick, especially going into a UFA year. |

They dont have many D men under contract at all. In fact I think they have Wideman, Giordano, O'Brien, Derek Smith and that's it aside from a few RFAs. If anything they might be the team willing to give Mesz a shot. |

Anyone watching NHL tonight, they are doing a piece on Samuel Morin. Apparently, the kid is taking boxing lessons. I guess he must idolize Chara. |

incredibly far off. 1 year of Read under contract might get you the 28th overall. Even if they work out an extension there is no way Read is getting us the 6th overall. |

That's beyond being greedy, maybe a chance at #22 or #28 |

As good as we've seen Mesz play, I don't think he gets anything more than a 4th round pick in return: 4 mil cap hit, lots of recent injury history. For a lot of teams, that's too much risk to take on.

I have no idea what the value would be, but I have a harder time trying to figure out a player on Calgarys roster that would interest the Flyers. |

Morin is still a bit of a stretch at 22. If the Flyers got the 22nd and intended on going D with the pick, one of Hagg or Morrissey should still be there.
I think Morin is widely considered as an early 2nd rounder. |

Getting 4M in Cap space would be part of the return. He has one year left. Not much risk there. |

I suppose. But that's still a lot of risk to take on for them to give up a first. If Read were an RFA, and gave teams a little bit more control over his future, I could see him fetching a mid to late first rounder.
But without multiple years on his contract, if I were a GM, I would not offer up that much for a guy that could walk to bigger money after one season. |
