Actually you can thank Tony and Doug for that resigning, it was a player option for the second year in his contract. He wasn't opting out of anything, he might not have skill, but he knows how to collect a check.

The in depth reviews I've read about him have been quite the opposite. I think people are reading far too much into his lack of psychicality as a knock on his defensive zone play.

I read more about defensive positioning combined with average skating ability as negatives. I'm not concerned about physicality, it's a nice asset to have, but not the end of the world if a guy is great at positioning and anticipation.

I really don't think not making the playoffs makes them anymore urgent then last offseason. They took a serious run at Suter and Parise first, then Weber. Obviously, they wanted to make radical changes to the roster back then. I don't believe there is any knee jerk reaction to not making the playoffs in a strike shortened season. I think they have identified foundation players and are willing to move out anyone else outside of that scope to make the team better. Of course, debating those moves is what makes it fun.

I can see your point. However, they went after Suter, Weber, and Parise b/c they probably felt they were that one star player away before the season started. That's my take on it. Not making the playoffs doesn't sit well within the organization. Watching the playoffs probably was killing Holmgren and Snider inside.
