That would absolutely suck if we have to sacrifice Coburn because we won a few extra meaningless games in the last week of the season.
I hate this organization sometimes. - phillydentist
I gotta believe if they trade up it is more likely they feel they have identified a franchise changing forward. With their philosophy of not typically drafting d-men in the first round, I find it hard to believe they would use assets because there is a can't miss blueliner. Only Jones is considered close to that. |

That's a huge IF. No one is offering up a good forward and a Coburn level dman for Coburn. What are you smoking? - phillydentist
You might want to go back and read what I actually said.

20 goal scorer, plays very solid two way game, good speed, excellent conditioning, good on the powerplay, outstanding on the PK, plays all 3 forward spots...there's a lot to like about him. - Jsaquella
I know that part. Everything I read online has been linked to the Flames. They seem to be the most interested in him. He is a very solid player, wish the Flyers could keep him. |

Rumor I just read was Read Coburn and 11th for 6th and 28th.
Not buying any of them to be honest. - hereticpride
I think they should keep Coburn, but I wonder how far the Flyers could move up for 28 and 41? |

If Coburn has still been playing in the last few weeks of the season maybe they would have lost those games. |

If it's Read Coburn and the 11th I'd hold out for 6th and 22nd, not the 28th. Theoretically the 22nd and 41st packaged could get you into position for Hagg, Morrissey, Zadorov etc. |

The GM scouted him years ago I think. I probably butchered that actually. @DLEED has the history on his timeline - aosplayo

you don't think lavi will change and yet you think they will make the plyoffs. not entirely irreconcilable, but it seemed as if you think the flyers need to make systematic changes in the recent past. - isaiah520
I do think they need to make systematic changes, if they want to be a top team. They need to get better defensively. Doesn't mean that they can't make the playoffs even if Laviolette doesn't change. He is still a Coach that has won a Cup and had success with his style of play. I don't like his style. But I can't ignore the success he's had.

My bad, misunderstood...John Weisbrod, Flames asst GM, scouted Read heavily at Bemidji St, and supposedly loves him. |

From 11 to 5-7 at the cost of Coburn plus I am inclined to agree. |

Depend on who they pick. If they trade up for Darnell Nurse or Rasmus Ristolainen, I agree...if they trade up and get Nichushkin or Monahan or Lindholm, different story. |

That would be the next step, maybe Scuderi with the cap savings from Coburn. - Jsaquella
If we add a forward from the Coburn trade there aren't necessarily going to be too many cap savings. My concern is that by trading Coburn we end up reliant on the FA market next season when Mez and Kimmo leave. |

Over on the Canucks board they are discussing Coots and Read for Schneider.

That depends if the organization Alt and/or Lauridson can continue to develop into that role. L. Schenn appears to have the tools to be the defensive d-man on a top pairing. Grossmann can play some tough minutes if he is healthy.
I would think if Coburn gets dealt, they must have somewhat of a comfort level in some of the young guys. |

That's going to happen whether they trade Coburn or not. Flyers will still be looking to upgrade the defense. Either through UFA or trade. Or OS. |

Yeah, Nichushkin could be a dominant player. Monahan could end up being better than Schenn or Couturier. Lindholm is also highly regarded. I've seen people use names like Forsberg & Zetterberg to describe his ceiling.
Granted, none of them are as highly regarded as the big 3 and Barkov, but I'd move up for any of those six. |

Isn't Alt more of a puck mover?
