money - cfish99
No that's not viable, Shero would rather have the assets & match his counter offer next summer.
I don't know how a sign & trade would be possible he's not a free agent yet, it's tampering |

ok
no one brought up that point, I mean, why would anyone trust that trade otherwise?
Jordan Staal had a reason to want to leave, what's Letangs?? - puckhead17
Money.
Chance to be the faceof a franchise and get out of Crosby & Malkin;s shadow. |

I'm not the biggest Letang fan, but yeah, I'd take him at $7.5mm for 8 years. He is an elite offensive defenseman. Key is getting the two way game to be better
But any defenseman with his offensive ability will command that kind of money. - Jsaquella
What is the deal with him and his problems qbing the pp? |

It's not tampering if the Pens give the Flyers permission to hammer out a new contract.
Tampering only happens without permission. If the Pens liked the trade enough, they'd have to give permission. |

He does play physical, so that is an additional element unfounded with the common offensive D men |

I also really don't understand all the hate for Streit. Yeah, he's going to make 5.25 mil, but the offensive dmen command that money as you say.. on TSN, people are acting like we signed Randy Jones.. - Hextall271
one dimensional, over 35 contract, not great in his own zone. not a horrible signing, but one i would have passed on. |
|
|
|
yes, but do you really want that new contract? Not worth it for me. - ukeman
Longest contract would be 7 years, barring a sign and trade(no idea how that works in hockey).
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4
Not sure on Cap compliance with the difference from year 1 to year 7, but the point is the Flyers ability to front load the salary helps them lower the cap hit over 7 years.

The Flyers got a good offensive defenseman for few assets. I don't like the contract, either. But it is what it is. My main issue is the 4th year. |

I believe if Shero feels the Flyers offer for Letang is the best, as silly as this sounds he takes it. It certainly appears he will not go past the draft with Letang on the roster if he isn't signed to an extension that he deems worthy. |

Money?, it's not like he wants $7.5 million a year & they offered $5 or 6 million
There's really no rumblings that he wants out of their specifically
I'd be very careful as Shero can fleece you before you know what happened |

And if the Flyers don't trade Coburn they have huge minutes with Timo, Schenn, Coburn, Grossman and Streit. Now, it's up to the coach to use these pieces in the proper situation. A lot of NHL coaches would love to have those minutes available. |

Crosby, Malkin, Sutter, Schenn........pretty freaking solid down the middle |

I can deal with the fact it's 4 years.. I am way more worried about what happens to fill out goal and the D.. |

Yeah, like he fleeced Calgary?
I'd be cautious, and I certainly wouldn't be going crazy. Shero's the one trying to move Letang, I'm just asking what the price is. |

that's 7 years for $49 million. He just passed on 8 years 56. I think the overall would have to be higher. The cap hit will be closer to 8 I think. Too rich for me. I know he will get that type of money, just don't like it for the Flyers. |

If they trade for him, it is their own player. He's still got a year left on his existing deal |

still think this is a shaky mix, where issues involve aging plyrs, injury history & mobility, esp if coby's out. |

Depends. If Pitt's 8/56 is 7/7.../7 then the flyers 10,9,8.. front loads $6 million the first 3 years. Not chump change when considering interest and the reduction of future earnings comparative to inflation. |

Sure, why can't Homer and the agent have a gentleman's agreement in principle. Once he is officially acquired, sign the paperwork. He'll get 8 years and a ton of money if they acquire him and a full NMC. I think he wants a little more money and a full NMC so they don't move him to bottom feeding team in a few years. |
