Vanek (50% retained salary), Ennis, Sekera, and our 2nd

for

Kuzentov, Schutlz (salary dump 2.75M 1 year deal), D Wilson, and your 23rd overall.

Ennis replaces their 2C and saves money on having to resign Ribeiro at 5M+ Laich is a good 2C too. Need to release Erat and Ward (7.5M). Buy one out.

poop.. we might even have to take a guy like Erat/Ward just to fill in our lines and get to the cap floor.

- JVince11

Oh. So even though this trade doesn't help our cap situation at all, even though McPhee already said no CBO will take place this season, even though we don't need Sekera, even though Ennis is no where near the same level as Ribeiro, we should go ahead and do it anyway, because we obviously would be a better team.

the Green trade wasn't really serious, I just want to get rid of him.

But just imagine Vanek-Backstrom-Ovechkin

I love Vanek, but it just isn't going to work without other moves going down. And it really isn't going down if you are expecting George (frank)ing McPhee, one of the most frugal/overrates his own players Gm in the league to give up 1 of our only good forward prospects, AND our first, AND any decent roster player. Yeah, go shop him somewhere else.

Oh I know it's never going to happen, I just like thinking about those three on the same line scoring goal after goal. Maybe I'll go play NHL 13 now...

Yeah, I understand we need a punisher, a guy to be afraid of, but they can't play dumb. They need to take a lesson out of the Chara handbook. Always play positionaly sound and dish out the big hits when you know you'll land them and there won't be a negative consequence.
- bsabres716

Did Chara play that way when he was 23?

Holy cow...
Do u guys really expect young defensemen to not make mistakes?

McNabb will be just fine
Actually, he will be very good

That's what I'm saying, if he works on his weakness (AKA playing a positionally sound game while dishing out big hits when necessary) then he will be the guy people are hyping him to be. Not every young defenseman fixes their game however.

Fair enough
I just disagree that his weaknesses are actually that bad
A -1 through your 1st 25 games is pretty good
And for a good part of those games he was paired with Myers, so who he played against wasn't that sheltered, at least not w our top Dman at the time
Maybe a little bit
But even so... It was an impressive start...
And if his skating really was THAT bad,
Or he was constantly out of position,
He would've been a hell of a lot worse than -1

Yes, well we'll see when he finally plays a full season for the big club. Clearly, I want him to succeed and become an amazing player. My original point was that I think Pysyk will be better and a better asset to this team. He already has his game down pat. Crisp passes, smart with the puck, fairly good positionally. Just my opinion, I could end up being horribly wrong. Only time will tell.

Ehrhoff is our number one. He's a quiet number one though. He makes everyone on the team better and if our team was actually good he would score numbers like he did in Vancouver while being the numbernumber one defender. He just has amazing hockey IQ. Buffalo fans will most likely disagree with me, but he will be our number one for 3-4 more years.

Not really...
Letang isn't gonna want to sign here
So it prob wouldn't be worth it

Assume Pegula has the brinks ready to back up. Do you like the player for the Sabres?

If he would sign here... I guess so...

Ppl that say he sucks defensively are wrong- he is inconsistent & makes goofy mistakes with the puck...
But that's MOST young defenders
Maybe some wouldn't consider him "young" anymore, but...
It takes longer for defensemen to learn the nuances of how to play "defense" in the NHL (Campbell, Chara, etc)
Just turned 26,
So he fits in as an elder member of what will be the "next core" and can grow with them
But he should be right on the verge of figuring it out
Bc of his age, he'll also be looked up to as a leader of the group,
And I'm not sure he's shown the leadership qualities that would be needed?

I'd be willing to gamble on him bc he has a skillset that's very hard to find in the league...

But it also depends on what they'd want for him
If they'd take Ehrhoff for him, then yes...
But if they want #8, Pysyk & Ennis (similar to what they got for Staal),
Then no thanks

I'm inclined to think they'd want a big return
And it's a heck of a gamble,
ESP considering the contract he'll want

I think the Sabres should sign Ryan McDonagh to a nice offer sheet. The Rangers are going to be in trouble cap wise and may not be able to match it. He would be a nice partner for someone like Myers.

Thats why I don't get what all this "he's had one good season" nonsense. He's had 3 good seasons and one pretty bad one. He needs to be consistent and start every season like he finishes them.

He is pretty sound defensively, he plays 24/2minutes a game for us and if you pay close attention, some games it seems like he's our only defencemen who's moving the puck or doing anything. How many times a game do you hear old Rick say "And Erhoff picks up the puck and is skating it out of the zone" or something along those lines. That little play where he picks it up behind the net and skates it out is the only breakout play we have and it seems to always run through Erhoff.
