Long time creep first time poster...

Lookin forward to tomorrow even dusted off the hat and a flyers and supporting it today... I am on the fence of the Coburn trade like most, living in Canada I have seen a bit of MP-S, and like most the Oilers seemed lost at times and just trying to play on talent and not with a system (not his fault IMO). However, the only reason I would like the flyers to draft 7 instead on 11th is to get Valeri Nichushkin, but with this trade taking him make less sense.

- AGL_91

If Nichushkin is in O&B after tomorrow I'd..... I'm actually not sure what I'd do... but I'd be very very happen

Huh. The seventh and fourth-rounder makes me wonder what that deal looks like -- it can't be Coburn plus 11 for 7 and a fourth.

If it was that, I'd drive to New Jersey tomorrow and hunt down Paul Holmgren myself.

OH! But if it's Coburn plus 41...you could probably do that, have 7 and 11, plus your third and the fourth we didn't have....that would work.

Ya Nichushkin is my fav player after the top 3 and although he is not a guarantee star, I think him alone would change how hockey views Flyers next group of prospects

One thing I think we should all be cognizant of about Brayden Schenn, though: He didn't have a bad season last year.

He was on pace for 44-ish points in an 82-game season. For the ice time he was getting...again, he needs to take another step forward. We all know it.

But his development -- last year was not a wasted year for him.

- AllInForFlyers

Agreed...and he faced fairly tough competition...

How is the Carter trade still up in the air when Voracek put up better numbers than Carter last year and the deal brought us Couturier too?
- BiggE

I like Jake and Cooter, but having more points doesn't mean it's a definite win.

The team has won one round of playoffs and missed the playoffs last year. It may turn out better, but our team performance has been worse. It may turn into a slam dunk if Schenn turns out as well, but right now there is no way you can say that team made us better short term.

If Braydon Coburn straight up gets the Flyers 7 and a fourth, Paul Holmgren has served the Flyers well.

Going out tonight for dinner and the Ron White show in AC, if this deal's gonna happen, I hope it happens before 5pm or so. If not, my wife is not going to be happy when I keep checking my phone every 10 minutes or so

I already politely informed mine what this weekend is. She rolled her eyes, smiled, and said "you're lucky to have me around when you do 48 straight hours of hockey. What do you want for dinner?"

That's how you know you married well, boys and girls.

I thought despite massive injuries (what 8 concussions +) in 2011-12 the team outperformed my expectations that season getting to the second round before the goalie carousel became an issue. In fact I believe the offense outscored the prior seasons offense when Richie and Carts were part of the team.

Last season - I blame apathy - Not skill or talent - for their predicament.

That makes no sense. If his boss orders to go out and get Bryz and he does so, then it doesn't work out, how is that Holmgren's fault?
I agree with Allin, if the Bryz signing had been Holmgren's idea, he would have lost his job over it, this one is all on Snider.

So if you subtract Voracek and Couturier, and add Carter the Flyers would have done better this season?? I can't see that. Yes LA has had a much better last 2 years than the Flyers, but I think some of that credit needs to go to: Quick, Doughty, Brown, Kopitar, Williams, Richards etc...

The Carter trade greatly benefited the Flyers. The fact that LA was later able to acquire Carter from the Bluejackets doesn't change that at all.

I don't see that, personally. He is statistically already our best defensive forward. At age 20. His big areas of improvement over the next couple seasons need to be on developing his offensive game, and muscle mass. Part of that has to go to the coach. We can't keep playing him on the 4th line, and getting angry when he doesn't produce offensively. I'd like to see him moved up to the 2nd line, with Schenn on his wing and Simmer on his other. Only when we put him in offensive opportunities will we see his offensive game flourish. I'm actually quite impressed he was on a 30 point pace playing on the 4th line.
- JAKEw1234

What statistics show this?

Couturier was middle of the pack at best in terms of goals against (per 60 min) while on the ice for the Flyers (5v5).

He wasn't forced to fly Bryz over to Philly in Snider's jet either.

I think if it was homer's idea, he would be in a situation a lot loke Gillis is in Vancouver. Everyone is talking about him losing his job over the luongo situation, when he is trying to get anything to help lessen the damage of his contract handed out. Homer just released Bryz, with no compensation at all. All things equal, I'd say Homer is getting a pass because his boss knows why they got into that situation.

No but he was forced to go out and deal for Bryzgalov's rights. Once you do that, you are almost always going to overpay. I don't believe Ed Snider would have been ok with just trading for his rights and then having Holmgren say, sorry boss, his agent wants more than I'm willing to spend so I'm just gonna let him go.

Perhaps he could have gotten a slightly more favorable deal, but either way Bryz was coming to Philly whether Holmgren liked it or not.
