See, that...if you're the Flyers and you walk yourself into 5, then you're looking at either a sliding Jonathan Drouin or Alexander Barkov.
You have won at life, then. Drouin needs to get a little bigger, develop some, but that is the type of winger you put with a Couturier or Schenn/Simmonds, and YOU ARE ROLLING.
If it's Barkov, then you can flash your brass set, move Couturier for the haul that Elliotte Friedman says is out there waiting for Holmgren to move him, drop Barkov in that spot, and YOU WIN AGAIN.
The fifth slot was always the key in this draft, if you're the Flyers. Doesn't mean they'll get there, but it was always the key. - AllInForFlyers
Absolutely, if Carolina is really willing to move that pick for a package starting with Coburn, you have to make that deal. |

Then they get a shot at Barkov, who I'd rather have than Nichushkin anyhow - Jsaquella
Id actually rather have Nichushkin. He's got the 3 "S"s. Speed, Size, and Skill. I really like how to rushes the net and personally think he'll become an elite talent in this league, as his physical style is even better suited for the smaller NA rinks than the international ones. |

In that case, I agree. |

IF (big IF) they pick up the 5th and keep the 11th, they're guaranteed a shot at one of Drouin, Barkov, Jones, or Nichuskinskyov. I'd take whichever one of them, then use the 11 to draft the best dman/forward (opposite of what you took at 5) and call it a day. - jmatchett383
I dunno. Playing along with the "Never gonna happen, but wouldn't it be cool if" game, if we end up with 5 and 11, and somehow the top 4 are MacKinnon/Drouin/Niche/Barkov, and we get Jones at 5, I might still take Ristolainen or Pulock at 11, rather than whatever forward's left. We really need that top guy back there, and better to have two lottery tickets than one. |

Then you know very little about Barkov, because he has the same attributes, although he's a little smaller. |

Ya, i had season tix to the mooseheads this year. If my team picked Droin, i would really hope he gets sent back (not just so I can watch him for another year.) I think he needs at least another year to add some size to his frame, and learn to skete with his head up a little more. Ahl would probably be perfect for him, but too bad that isn't alowed |

Barkov would be awesome, at 17 he was successfully playing against grown men. The kid has it all, I just don't see him making it past Tampa at #3. |

the #5 is for Coburn +11th probably + more
it is not for Coburn alone
and I'm sure there are teams in the 6-10 spot who may offer a defenseman + their pick to move into #5 |

I wouldn't say "never gonna happen" weirder things have happened at the draft. Here's my reasoning behind Jones falling to 5:
Col-MacK (imo the best player in the draft)
Fla- Drouin (having him and huberdeau on the top line would be an awesome pairing)
Tb- Nichushkin (apparently they're quite high on him)
Nash- Barkov (big young scoring center they need)
Boom. Jones at 5 |

Yep. To me, if this one goes down first, because Coburn isn't a superstar, this is the one that gets the ball rolling -- teams are going to be look at whatever the return might be to set value on some of their moves.
That's the thing about this league that is irritating -- you have a ton of GMs who are afraid to "go first." |
