I've seen him play quite a bit in the last few years, being the most casual of edmonton fans (they are fun to watch) and I really do not like him. It may be that he doesn't fit in the free wheeling style, but... - phatpat44
I don't like him even the slightest bit. He just doesn't come off as a true hockey player. He just doesn't seem like a winner. He seems like Zherdev |

So if Calgary is starting a rebuild why exactly are they trading 2 of their 3 1st rounders in supposedly the deepest draft this decade for a 27 year old? Doesn't seem right. But if rumors are true, and Calgary is apparently selling the farm to win now, then do you think Coburn, Read, 2nd rounder 3rd rounder, 4th rounder could get us all of Calgary's firsts? |

Feaster isn't a very good gm, but I dont think that would happen. The Flames are notorius for trying to rebuild on the fly. The Flyers set a template in 2007-08 when they traded for Biron then signed three high priced free agents and instantly became an eastern conference finalist. What people don't realize is that the team turned around because Richards and Carter became stars. |

If the Oilers tried to include him in the deal as a bargaining chip, I would say "What are you going to give me to take this guy from you?" |

See, I think it's the opposite.
I agree that Homer really likes Matt Read, but he also knows that there just isn't a way to sign him that makes any kind of sense -- you gotta give Giroux his money, you are looking for a difference maker on defense and that's gonna cost money, Schenn and Couturier need extensions, and somebody is gonna get more than Steve Mason's earning this season to play the net either this year or next.
I agree, I don't think they WANT to trade Matt Read. I just think they've crunched the numbers and realize that fair market value for Matt Read...that just might be something they can't do, and you have to get an asset for someone with his kind of value. - AllInForFlyers
If they trade Coburn though, it could open up cap room for Reader... |

But trading your longtime captain, #1 dman, and a top 6 forward doesn't exactly suggest they're rebuilding on the fly. They're also out a starting goalie now. Seems to me like they need to slow down their rebuild and take full advantage of this draft. |

Plus they want/need Coburn. For once we actually have leverage in a trade. |

I'm saying they shouldn't trade their firsts. I'm not saying they won't |

They should postpone the draft for 2 or 3 days so Homer can acquire all the first round picks.
Its gonna be a hell of a day in here tomorrow when nothing will happen of what was rumored today. |

Letang will definitely be dealt. That will give us something to talk about at least. I have a feeling the Flyers will do something. |

I can see Read being expendable, but I am sure the Flyers have another winger already in their minds. I think we are going to find out soon enough. If not, it can open up doors for Cousins, McGinn, Straka, etc. |

Depends Paajarvi + Nichushkin I like > Coburn + 11
but I don t like Paajarvi + Nurse < Coburn + (Risto, Zadorov, Domi, Morin, etc)
that being sad the Coburn gone means we are relying on a band-aid of a defence group plus luke schenn. |

he doesnt seem to get that the NBA is completely different. it's about 5 players. not 10-12 like an NHL team's core.
the sixers will take like 2-4 years to rebuild. It took the Penguins and blackhawks like 8 years. - Crimsoninja
There's no length of time in the nba. It's just whenever you land 2 stars.

if you're the Flyers what would you give up to trade for Jones at 2? |

Look at the Bobcats or Clippers or Grizzlies. It took those teams 10+ years to build a competent team. In the Bobcats case they never have. The NHL is much less based on luck than the NBA. If the Sixers don't get Andrew Wiggins, it could be more like 5-6 years.
It may take a few years in the NHL, but you can find star players all over the 1st round. If you consistently pick in the top 5, you will find all stars if you draft correctly. |
