He chose to sign because it was a fair market deal or very close to it. If he thought he could make more, he would've tested the market and waited. Also, only Pitt is able to give him 8 years, one more than any other team. It was a fair deal not a steal.

From what I've read on the other boards, most think it was an overpayment but I disagree there. It was fair.

I think it is a little overplayed the McNabb angle. McNabb is his uncle by marriage. I'm sure you'll get some stupid tweet from Donovan if Darnell is drafted by the Flyers, however.

It's below market value for what he could command on the open market in Free Agency. Not every player wants to maximize his worth by going to Free Agency. Maybe he was happy with the Pens, and wanted to stay there. It's a very good deal for the Pens. And good For Letang that he chose not to hold the Pens over the coals and try to squeeze out every last dollar.
