Yes when they could have moved down and selected him in the 20's - ob18
You seem to know a fair amount these draft prospects. What grade would you give Holmgren for the first round pick?
A solid B? |

Okay. I don't know enough to make a strong opinion one way or another.
Would of liked to see the Flyers add an offensive defenseman who can skate and move the puck. Hopefully this kid can do that down the road. - stveshdy
I would like to know if Homer was offered any offers to drop down, and what the offers were? |

He has a great shot which means his highlights will look good. I was hoping the Flyers took him, but I'm willing to wait and see on this one. |

I guess we're going to find out how good of a mentor Pronger can be to a young d-man. - ravishingone
If you believe what you read, he helped Luke Schenn some -- playing with Kimmo Timonen certainly helped more, but Schenn was monstrous even when playing with Oliver Lauridsen.
With Terry Murray in house, and if Pronger's truly active within the organization...Lauridsen showed signs of development, as a sixth-rounder. Marc-Andre Bourdon developed into an NHL-capable defenseman. Erik Gustafsson shows signs of development, as an undrafted free agent, as does Brandon Manning.
Why is it that so many are so certain that Samuel Morin won't develop? I might not have taken him at 11, but if he can skate well enough, I don't know that I wouldn't have, either.

so we don't know a thing about these kids. complaining right now is kinda silly (unless they traded away their pick entirely or something like that). we have no idea what kind of player this kid will be, or what other orgs were offering to trade up, or even what other orgs were thinking about morin. can't we just wait and see before people get nuts? - FlyerMike18
there were much better picks than him at that position and a division rival just took one |

The 11th pick is not the only pick they have. - MJL
My draft plan:
1st rounder: Best available prospect
2nd rounder: Best available defenseman
3rd rounder: Best available defenseman
4th rounder: Best available goaltender
5th rounder: Best available goaltender
6th rounder: Best available prospect
7th rounder: Best available prospect |

Morin sounds like a decent prospect, just surprised they took him at 11 with a consensus ranking well over 20. - jstross
Encouraging signs are that he shot up the rankings and that Simon Nolet probably had a big hand in the selection.
No guarantee that he would have been there if they had traded down... doubt the Flyers were the only team in love with him. |

w/ dmen, i would start evaluating their hockey IQ along w/ their basic skills and go from there. pulock might be a guy who haunts us for yrs, whizzing bombs by our goalies on the PP...or he could be a sieve on D who craps out.... |

With Pronger in the draft room who I'm sure has strong opinions on defensive prospects, I feel better about this pick. |

Its not so much the fact that he wont develop into a solid shutdown guy.
Its the fact that you have a real need for actual talent on the back end. Most people would agree Morin is a reach, and with Pulock, Zadorov and Morrissey still on the board its an interesting choice.
Considering this organization's track record on drafting D, to reach like that, I have my doubts.
