I woulda thought niño woulda gotten more in return for the isles. I like clutterbuck but for a top 5 pick? - kindlyrick
Nino's value dropped because he is a whiner.
Clutterbuck will be a guy you love come playoff time!!! |

Disagree on this one, Chief. You finish bad all those years with the payoff being top-five picks. Shipping one off for a third line checker (regardless of where the Isles put him, that's what he is...) is a bit of a setback, just imo. It's cool if folks disagree. - UIF
I'm not kissing Snow's ass on this one, but it was pretty obvious he didn't want to play here. Snow shopped him hoping for more but didn't get it. I don't love it but I don't hate it either.
Also he played in Minnesota's top 6. |

Clutterbuck is a hitter, can wreak havoc. Defensively solid. Grit grit grit plus can score. Don't discount that need #isle fans

no matter what we think of the return, Gillis has stolen the title of worst trade of the draft hands down. I'm still stunned.

I would also like to add that Clutterbuck is great friends with a guy by the name of Nathan Horton.

#Isles now 5 picks away... Wouldn't surprise me if they moved down to swap/add picks or a player.

The more I think about it the more I like it. Clutterbuck played with JT and is the kind of player JT needs |

we need legit scoring for the top line. Clutterbuck is a 3rd liner.

When Clutterbuck, the Wild’s third-round pick in 2006, left for Houston the following season, Tavares’ production “slipped” to 40 goals and 118 points.
“I realized last year how much I missed Cal’s presence,” Tavares said earlier this year. “He always had guys looking over their shoulders. He made guys second guess things and turn pucks over, and that created a lot of opportunities for myself.”
Clutterbuck said the most infamous hit was on superpest Patrick Kaleta, the former Peterborough Pete who now plays for the Buffalo Sabres. Kaleta used to take runs at Tavares every game until …
“I hit him with a football block,” Clutterbuck said, laughing. “He was going into kill Johnny and I came out of nowhere and just hammered him. Just laid him out. He never hit Johnny again. Johnny was the franchise guy and my job was to make sure nothing too crazy happened to him.”
Tavares said Clutterbuck “wasn’t always the most-liked guy in the league. I think he probably was the least.” |

Great thoughts!
Gotta be excited about our own team and opportunity to improve this year.
With Nino maybe Snow felt he was playing with house money. Hopefully Strome and Nelson will provide the future offense. Also possible Nino could have pulled an Ullstrom, sounds like the agent played hardball. |

Didn't Matt Martin play on the first line in Juniors to protect Stamkos? Doesn't mean these guys are NHL first liners. I like getting Clutterbuck here...nothing against the guy and I'll cheer my heart out for him. Just don't like the trade, and a first line of Moulson-Tavares-Clutterbuck doesn't scream elite talent to me, except the center spot, obviously. |

agreed. I don't see clutterbuck playing in the top six. Hell of a third line though if they put Nelson and Grabner out with him. Interesting potential. I did really want to see if Nino could play with JT though.

Everyone happy he made a player for player deal?
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
not when LL follows with trading for schneider.
Nino for a tougher upgrade of Boyes and a 3rd round pick is nothing to be praised.
Horton would be the idea available combo of scoring/toughness winger to play with JT.
Goes to show how if you(or your agent) piss Garth off, he'll banish your ass and drop you like 3rd period French.

everyone should piss garth off if "banishing their ass" means trade them from a playoff bubble team to a potential cup contender |

Yeah, and DiBennedeto played on the other wing with Stamkos.
They are saying on twitter that the Isles offered VAN; Nino and #15 for Schneider. VAN must've really wanted Horvat. EDM offered them a better than NJ too. |

Problem with our first line is all you have to do is focus on Tavares and only Tavares to contain it. This wouldn't change that...it needs a second dynamic offensive threat...then you have either Moulson there to chip in garbage or maybe Clutterbuck there for protection.
Edit..."all you have to do" isn't a good way of putting it...not exactly easy to contain Tavares... |

Need to consider if Moulson should continue on JT's line with the addition of clutterbuck. If he is to play as JT's rw, not much talent up front. More pressure on JT imo

I know, it's funny though that a lot of mock drafts had the Isles taking Horvat.
