Scuderi would be great Always heard he did not want to play close to home though. - ses111
My good friends cousin married him. He grew up isles fan and would come here now . He actually turned more money down from NYR four years ago because he couldn't stomach to play for them. But yea I had heard that he wanted to be away from home last contract too |

If he is willing to play in NY, Isles need to be all in. Have to be worried about the Rangers getting him. |

He probably wouldn't play for NYR unless it was only contract offer but who the hell knows. It's a business |

I wasn't complaining about it. In fact I like Bailey. I was just asking if anybody remembers how the coliseum went silent that day. In the end it was a good choice by Snow - mighty13duck
I wasn't saying that, either- just pointing out that sometimes, the best of your draft isn't the first round pick (in this case, Hamonic probably is the best of that crop). You never know, which is why I hate assessing a draft immediately. I didn't hate the DiPietro deal either, until it was abundantly clear that both he and Kvasha sucked a$$.
That said...I will also say this, as a quick assessment of this year's draft ....in my best Mel Kiper voice impersonation....."and this is why the Florida Panthers always pick in the top 5 of the draft." Nashville by all accounts was trading their pick.....until Florida's brainless trust farted loudly, as usual... |

As for us, some things:
-Glad Niederreiter is gone, as I said. You don't need a pain in the a$$ on a team that has this chemistry. I know his agent only said one thing, but next it would be, "why is the greatest prospect in the history of earth on line two?" Buh-bye....the kid we got in return obviously at least potentially isn't the offensive player Nino might turn out to be, but we need as many of him as we can get- guys who will go through a brick wall for their teammates, like Martin.
-Horton is going to get silly. We won't be in that race unless the bottom drops way out of that market, and we should not be, in my opinion. He's not THAT good to be signed to an 8 year, $70M contract, which is what he'll probably get from one of the teams who can't do math. Hopefully it's our neighbors in Manhattan. I always enjoy seeing them screw themselves.
- A Scuderi, on the other hand, is a no brainer if he'll play here. Veteran defensemen are always good to have- especially veteran defensemen who show up to work every day.
-So is Weiss, if he's available for less than something stupid. That said, I'd see what he's looking for, before I'd ever trade for his rights. He's kind of fragile, so I can't see him getting more than $4.5-5M per.....but then there are always the Flyers. It may be better to see what Briere still has left in the tank than to get in a bidding war over this guy.
-The other one I didn't hear mentioned was Iginla- I'd pay him for two or three years to help us get to the cap floor, no problem. He's not going to get what Horton will, given his age, but he can probably still help- especially on a line with JT. I'd have to imagine he's going to be second fiddle, so we may be able to focus on him while everyone else races to back the Brinks truck into Horton's driveway.
-The goalie situation is interesting. The best of the ones who would only cost money is Emery, but he might be another head case, and we don't need any of that here. I'm guessing with Halak or Hiller, now we're talking about next year's draft pick(s). For Hiller, I'd part with our first pick next year, no problem- he's better than anything we've had here for a LONG time. Halak is OK, but he's inconsistent- he might be a decent stop gap, but I'd probably rather have the old guy who is already comfortable in this locker room than him. |

Iginla looked old, slow and borderline useless during the playoffs. At this point you'd just be paying for the name.

12 points in 15 playoff games isn't a bad thing....he still was on pace for over 60 points during the season, and he spent most of it playing with a team that was flat out cr*p. I definitely would see about two years. The third one might be a stretch, but it would depend on the money. |

I doubt the rangers will be in on any significant UFA. They hve no cap space by noy buying out Richards and have RFAs to sign. Theyll get their guys signed, but they're limited beyond that. |

Isles got better today. Love the Cluttebuck move. Obviously is was best offer, sounds like snow was trying to move niƱo for a while. Would be incredibly happy with a scuderi or Andrew ference signing. Both very good stay at home guys with cup expierence - Isles316
It looks like Snow tried moving Nino for Bernier but LA said no, according to Staple. Shows what Ninos value must be on the market. I would thimk Nino is a more attractive chip that toronto's package for Bernier. Guess not. |

Money. Nino's cap hit is more than the two players Toronto traded combined. And Toronto still retained $500k in salary. LA needed to fill two positions affordably, and they did. |

The draft pick position had an influence too. They apparently had a hard on for Horvat and didn't think he'd be there at 15. |

I think Garth better hurry and resign Nabby, Scuderi for sure woould be a great addition but I wonder if we could get Edler from the Nucks? Horton , Weiss would also be good imports but I really don't feel Garth made the team any more attractive yesterday and we know that has been one of our issues for years....but as someone said Horton on JT's wing should be enough....he would likely have a record season with the Isles. |

Fellow Isle Fans....
must say, if any of you have the chance to go to the live draft next year in Philly, its def an experience worth doing. Also, if you can not get tixxs for it, go in person regardless bc they are free and easily obtainable from the arena box office....
Even tho I had my tixxs in advance, so many ppl were giving away extras.
Being fortunate enough that a friend knew a scout and was in Winnipeg's suite for a while, picked the brain of him plus was able to meet few GM's from other teams, former players, coaches other scouts and some of the newly drafted kids.
Most of these kids were very nice and pleasant to talk with, as they had excitement written all over them and the opportunity to begin their NHL career.
So many stories I would of like to share, but to long to even type....
but here are some interesting stuff that maybe you guys might like........
Most/all GM's do not like Snow bc of him circumventing the cap last year w/Tim Thomas trade and bring up A. Lee just to reach the cap floor and only playing the kid 1 or 2 games. They felt they should operate under better hockey rules instead. But most/all GM's understand that Snow is working with VERY LITTLE limitations...
Some have felt that Snow is really doing a good job finding AHL players and turning them into sound NHL players, he gets high praise for PA, MM, Grabs. But no mistake, SNOW has very little to work with. So all this nonsense of Wang given Snow full throttle to operate is completely BS......
Also bc he is not well liked, teams almost refuse to deal with him, just to teach him a lesson unless obviously it makes sense or beneficial to the other team. I could keep going on Snow and team, but will stop for now.
Cappy and the coaching staff, many feel that they are not the best coaches, but actually give them high praise for teaching a very sound hockey team, and that the perception around the league is " now the Isles are much better than most teams with a bright future ahead ". No more laughing stock, and this team is very well disciplined and sound, an with a few added pieces could be a dangerous team. Was glad to hear that, after the torture this team has been taken....
On the Nino trade.....Nino only downside is not a good skater yet, and a tad immature with public outcry's. But people have mixed thoughts over the trade bc of Nino's high potential, but Snow and company are not properly developing him and both sides do not agree. heard Nino was never going to be here, bc Snow is an arse and that dealing him for the best possible. Others felt that is Snow could have done better/bigger, but the league knew Snow was having issues w/Nino, so the value wasn't there from others, "trying to take advantage of Snow". So much more on this also, but to much to type.
Coach Yeo of the Wild (which he is an arse ) spoke with him and asked his opinion on trade, he only mentioned, "Both teams won" his big speech...what a tool
On a sad note, Hamonic loves the Isles, and would not do anything to ruin the chances of playing here, but would like to play closer to home. Only bc his parents are splitting up, and would like to be closer to his family, nothing to do w/team, coaches, management, etc..... when I heard that story, I felt bad and as much as I like the kid, wish Isles would grant him only for the purpose of his family......
So much more, but to much to type, oh another note, met w/Ryan Puloch's agent and the Kid is psyched to be here, plus he's the agent for Hamonic, Ullstrom, etc...
honestly, next year we need more representation from Islander country in Philly... |

Jets like Bogosian a ton, Kane is a very unliked player in locker room and extremely arrogant of the ice...lots of stories on him,
was told, if the price is right, they would deal him, but he has loads of talent, just immature an needs to grow up.
but yes, Winnipeg is his preferred |

Didn't Hamonic's father die when he was 14? I remember them running a story on his struggles growing up and I could swear that was mentioned. |
