Panthers trying to keep Weiss
Saturday, 06.29.2013 / 9:02 PM / News
NHL.com

Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said Saturday the team wants to keep free agent center Stephen Weiss........

"We're trying to get something done [with Stephen]," Tallon told the Panthers website. "You get one shot at it, being an unrestricted free agent and we're trying to do the best we can for both parties. If I can come up with the right number, and it works out, that's fine. I think we'll go through [Sunday] and then we'll work on that ... and make a decision early next week."

Nielsen will get bumped by Nelson next year... but I agree with KO and Bailey.

The man is a Billionaire, he can sign anyone to the richest contract in the game, but as long as he is losing money no matter how many sell outs NVMC has... he's going to save his pennies & who the hell could blame him?

But there are owners with less worth then Wang owning sports teams, they are just able to make a return on their product.

Maybe something changed, but last time I checked, Forbes listed his net worth at $895 million. That doesn't quite make the billionaire status. Especially considering that's liquid and non liquid, meaning the estimated $155 million value of the Isles is included.

I think that out of the teams harboring around the Philly area NJ, NYI, NYR, WAS, Buff, Bos, he'd prefer the Isles.....

maybe more ice time here, can be productive still, idk, other factors are possible
maybe Briere might retire in a few yrs and not worth moving the whole family after being comfortable in Philly for quite some time...

but hey, wouldn't mind him here, especially if he can stay healthy...bonus

Cant argue with that, plus the guy is a little warrior I would love for that tenacity to rub off on some of our kids.

"IF" this is the case & I don't know if it will because Frans brings a whole lot more to the table on the D side then Nelson does... Then Frans needs to be actively shopped. I still think we see Nelson or Strome Centering the second line with the other one on the wing & Frans sliding into the third line roll where he belongs.

for what its worth, that nets-celtics deal was horrendous for BK...milbury-esque

Yeah, I watch basketball only when the batteries die on the remote while I'm trying to change the channel, but my best guess is they traded cap space in a gamble that those two guys have something left in the tank. We know how WELL that "hoping he's got something left in the tank" works out for us....but you can't blame a guy for trying, anyway....

Moulson.... Tavares.... Strome

Bailey... Weiss.... KO

Grabner... Neilsen.... Clutterbuck

McDonald... Cizikas... Martin

I'd switch wings between line two and three. Nielsen with Okposo and Bailey should be our defensive line, IMO. The two smaller guys with the banger would make a better line two, in my opinion.

Coming off two concussions. Not a very safe acquisition at this point.

and replaced with who? They aren't going anywhere. I know they are both notorious slow starters but we saw different players lastseason in the PO's. They will get a shot as well they should. Snow is working on a long term as we speak with Bailey.

That's what these kids are projected to be on this team and that's the way it should be with Frans on the third line.

I don't think that happens right off the bat though. Ideally, throughout the season a line of something like Grabner-Strome-Nelson develops a nice scoring touch while staying reasonable responsible defensively, and they take over the second-line role while Bailey-Nielsen-KO slides to a third-line shutdown role, where all three really seem to be most comfortable. But I think those minutes will be gradually ceded to the "Strome" line from the Nielsen line as the kids earn it. Don't think it'll be handed to them right off the bat.

Those two are tradeable. I will say though they did bring it during the playoffs but they need to bring it during the year as well

For what? Think about the return? They will be given an opportunity this year. Like i said Bailey's agent and Snow are working out a multi-year deal. Unless they hit a snag he'll be here for a while.

I would not trade KO or Bailey. Lets see what they can do coming off a playoff season. Maybe both are ready to break out? I'm not sure the return would be worth it anyway?

Exactly. I know we have seen them play good when it doesn't matter but both found another level when it did matter last season. Neither are getting traded unless it's in a package for something extremely special.

I definitely wouldn't trade Okposo- I remember the goal he scored to tie Washington in the last few minutes (we eventually lost the shootout). It seemed like from that point forward, the light bulb went on that he's stronger than a lot of his opponents, and he became a beast. I'm just scared that if we move him, he's going to become an in-prime Iginla, and we are going to be sorry.

As for the other guy, if he can keep playing defense the way he did the last couple of months of the season, then he is also valuable enough to hold on to, and any offense he provides is a bonus.

They both will be here next season as well they should. I'm perplexed why anyone would want to trade them at this point? Unless there is a contract snag they will be here.

Cause now they have some value. KO has been on the radar of many teams in the years past but after the injury that died. Hey they looked great towards the end of the season and playoffs, but just not convinced yet they can keep it up all year. What would we all do if they get off to real slow starts and then the Islanders miss the playoffs? I am sure we will grill them and GArth for not trading them when he has the chance
