I think they plan on not being good the next couple of years(top 5 picks), thus getting elite offensive talent in the 2014, 2015 drafts.
- Cheeseballin

And what "ELITE" offensive talent was available?
Only Nichuskin IMO,
And it's understandable why we passed on him w the KHL worries
His attitude also was a red flag for me when he said he'd play in the KHL if he didn't make the NHL roster

doesnt he have a one-way deal? I thought that was part of his reasoning in coming to buffalo.

There are still a bunch of teams with a huge need in goal. With Schneider and Bernier moving to teams that weren't thought to be in on the new goalie offseason sweepstakes, I think Miller's value has never been higher. Philly and NYI need a #1 goalie no matter what and you could potentially throw Pittsburgh into the mix. Would have loved to see Miller and Stafford going to NYI for a package of Nino and Okposo, but with Okposo's playoff performance, he may have vaulted himself into "untouchable" status for the time being, or at the very least he bought himself another change on Long Island. Anyway, I don't think there is anyway that Miller is on this team come October. Just wish it would have happened today.
- The_Inkwell

I would think the Islanders would make Millers no trade list of 8 teams.

I agree, after the top 4 or 5 forwards went I would have drafted the guys we did as well.

That list can be changed and the fact they made the playoffs can change his mind. It's only a year anyway

he came to Buffalo so they didn't have to use their last call-up. You could put him through waivers and he probably wouldn't be claimed...

Guys on 1 way deals can go to the minors. The only difference is a 2 way deal means they make less in the minors.

ok, here is my take on the draft so far

I over reacted when we took 2 d men initially

looking at how it played out:

1. They got 2 of the top 4 ranked d men coming into the draft
2. I am sure the difference between the 5th ranked D man and 15th ranked D man is much greater in this "deep" draft then the 10th best skater up front and 25th
3. Between Armia and the two G's, the top 2 line guys were taken w/o getting highly ranked d men
4. Just because we like Mcnabb, does not mean the Sabres are that high on him
5. We moved one of the puck moving d man, got a stay at home d man who is younger and a kid that would have been a first round pick if he was a few days younger.

This may end up being Darcy's best draft

Damn good size on the blueline for years to come

- CaptPantalones

So MAYBE in 3 or 4 years we MIGHT have a good defense. And who's to say what the rest of the roster looks like then. We might have no goalie or decent set of forwards. I realize we are rebuilding but you guys who seem to think it will all be hunky-dory in a couple of years when all of our draft picks become superstars are just being naive.
