They said this draft compares forwards 2003
Eric Staal cup
Nathan Horton cup
Jeff Carter cup
Dustin Brown cup
Zach Parise cup
Ryan Getlaff cup
Ryan Kessler close to cup
Mike Richards cup
Corey Perry cup
Thats from the first round only. The experts compared the forwards from this draft to 2003 and Darcy said lets take 2 def. the experts dont know poop - hafgod
Nuckushkin is a huge risk and the only player worth the 8th pick IMO. I know we have seen the experts comparisons but it's not like we didnt have major needs on D either |

Guys on 1 way deals can go to the minors. The only difference is a 2 way deal means they make less in the minors. - keptupl8
yea, i just thought on way he could get claimed? i could be wrong though. |

he came to Buffalo so they didn't have to use their last call-up. You could put him through waivers and he probably wouldn't be claimed... - Jawallstar1
He wouldn't make it through waivers. There were a few teams interested in him but chose here because we guaranteed he would play in the NHL |

I can understand 89's frustration with Darcy.
Clutterbuck starts off he day going to The Isles. Why not the Sabres?
You see your arch rival pick a player like Bolland. Why not the Sabres?
I like the 2 D they selected in the 1st (and like the Bailey selection).
But our GM will never make that bold move (ex - NJ Lou grab's their goalie of the future).
What is he asking for for these guys:
Stafford
Miller
Vanek?
Terry Pegula "What has Darcy done wrong" - Irish 14
"why not the Sabres?"
Bc bringing those guys in when we are rebuilding doesn't really fit
ESP, Bolland who's also oft-injured
Stafford we prob can't get anything for right now,
Hopefully he bounces back and we can get a decent return at the deadline
I'm disappointed we didn't trade Vanek & Miller, but it seems like teams just didn't wanna give up picks in this draft
Vanek will still get moved for a great return
As for Miller, THANK YOU Vancouver!!!
If Philly or the Islanders want to compete, Miller is their ONLY good option out there now! So I'm also looking at a nice return for him |

That list can be changed and the fact they made the playoffs can change his mind. It's only a year anyway - Stripes77
Yea I knew that but something tells me Miller wants to get closer to the West Coast. |

So MAYBE in 3 or 4 years we MIGHT have a good defense. And who's to say what the rest of the roster looks like then. We might have no goalie or decent set of forwards. I realize we are rebuilding but you guys who seem to think it will all be hunky-dory in a couple of years when all of our draft picks become superstars are just being naive. - sambarugh
Can you guarantee any of the forwards drafted today outside of the Top 6 will be superstars? Other than the top 4 or 5 forwards in the draft what are the odds they turn into something? The draft is a crap shoot and no one is a guarantee, you pick who you think is the best available. |

Nobody said rebuilds are easy. But it's the necessary steps needed to take. The only way we get that franchise player is to tank a season or throw tons of money and hope they come here during Free Agency. It's no guarantee but the course we have been on hasn't been working either |

Exactly why I would have given pretty much anything to pick in the top 3 though.
Not Darcy though. |

Nope. 1-way or 2-way is just about how much they get paid.
Clearing waivers depends on years under contract, games played, seasons played, etc. |

I'd have preferred they try and go big with Nish at 8, but it's hard to argue with the rest of the draft. We got some snarl on d which is always good, and Bailey was a good pickup. |
