Exactly why I would have given pretty much anything to pick in the top 3 though.

Not Darcy though.

- sambarugh

But this team has many wholes all over the place, giving our 2 first rounders to get into the Top 3 wouldn't have been enough so now we are also giving away a top prospect or one of our top guys in the NHL.

That's 3 potential top guys for one potential top guy, not sure how that gets us to where we want to be.

How many defenseman are on this list?? check please!
- Irish 14

The SIZE and Strength of the two D-Men we picked up are impressive.

I found something interesting on "The Hockey-Writers/Hockey News" did an article that listed their top 100 Prospects for the 2013 Draft.

Searching for some of our choices, I found 4 of them listed "IN ORDER" coincidence??? WHAT are the odds of that????

They were as follows:

37. Zadarov (absolute BEAST, come get some Lucic)

38. JT Compher ( Plays complete game/ High Hockey IQ)

39. Ristolainen (Complete and NHL READY)

40. Baptiste (Love the speed and work ethic)

I was hoping for Nisch at 8 but I'm satisfied with the choices and Bailey is a nice story to work next to Kaleta

So MAYBE in 3 or 4 years we MIGHT have a good defense. And who's to say what the rest of the roster looks like then. We might have no goalie or decent set of forwards. I realize we are rebuilding but you guys who seem to think it will all be hunky-dory in a couple of years when all of our draft picks become superstars are just being naive.
- sambarugh

The D will be better next year, and even better the next year, and way better the year after that. In part b/c of this draft. What's not to like!? Scoring, i beleive, will be addressed in free agency as I mentioned before. Happy happy with this draft

Unless you're willing to say that about every team that didn't draft top 5.

Every team wanted one of those picks. Zero were moved. The asking price was obviously too high for everyone.

We could have gotten a franchise player today but Darcy and Devine said nah.
- sambarugh

Who is being naive? How is an 8th pick forward a franchise player, but a 8th pick defenseman is a maybe?

Do you mean they could have traded up? Because that takes a trade partner. Everyone thought Carolina wanted Myers for the 5th pick, but they used that pick for a forward. It's very easy to second guess.

Or do you have inside information where a franchise player was offered, but Darcy and Devine said nah? Which player could we have gotten?

Says who? I think it's pretty obvious the top 3 teams weren't moving out. Especially the way Jones dropped. Who btw I think will be a bust. Price of admission was crazy high. So we get two stud d and fill the prospect cupboard with pretty good talent

I'd have preferred they try and go big with Nish at 8, but it's hard to argue with the rest of the draft. We got some snarl on d which is always good, and Bailey was a good pickup.
- nfph

Our D has sucked and our Ace Myers has sucked too. There wasn't much in the pipeline as far as good D men left.

He wouldn't make it through waivers. There were a few teams interested in him but chose here because we guaranteed he would play in the NHL

This draft was compared to 2003. Look at the forwards that came from that.
Itwas a once in a decade draft for forwards. I would trade Ennis he hasnt shown much on wing.. Hodson is a better Roy. Bergeron was willing to die to win a cup. I cant get Hodson to backcheck. Grigerenko might be ok someday. Armia has never played at this level here.

- hafgod

Did anyone in this draft "play at this level here?"
Everyone in this draft "might be ok someday"

It was a once in a decade draft OVERALL, not just for forwards

We clearly still have work to do acquiring forwards,
But we also needed to get top pair, shutdown defensemen....
Right?!

And we did just that

Also, Compher is a 1st round talent, an I like the Bailry kid as well (and not bc he's from Buffalo)
So we did get two nice forward prospects as well

How does he not have to? One way deal. If a player is to be sent to the minors he has to clear waivers does he not? Or am I missing a loop hole?

NHL Player(s) comparison
– Petersen reminds me of Ryan Miller in some ways as far as ability to play like a slinky yet remain just firm enough in net.
