is that who you thought they would take with that second pick?
- Mentalorgasm5

no, I do not look at players after the first 70 picks or so

this kid probably should have gone in the mid second rd in most drafts though

Says who? I think it's pretty obvious the top 3 teams weren't moving out. Especially the way Jones dropped. Who btw I think will be a bust. Price of admission was crazy high. So we get two stud d and fill the prospect cupboard with pretty good talent
- Stripes77

Are you telling me that Miller, Myers. and both out 1sts wouldn't have gotten us MacKinnon

How does he not have to? One way deal. If a player is to be sent to the minors he has to clear waivers does he not? Or am I missing a loop hole?
- Stripes77

holy (frank)ing (frank)

a one way deal means that he makes the same salary in the ahl as he does in the nhl. It has nothing to do with waivers.

A two way deal means that you make less in the minors than you make in the nhl. It has nothing to do with waivers.

Waivers are based on how many years since you sign your first pro contract. Then, if you play a certain number of games within your entry level contract, you become waiver eligible.

He's played 7 games. He does not have to clear waivers

and he's on a 2-way deal (not that it matters)

So give the new face of the franchise absolutely no supporting cast to carry a franchise and watch him collapse under the pressure

STEAL of a pick. Kid has wheels and a fantastic shot

This is why the draft is such a crapshoot though. You would think this guy should have been a first rounder. That's the problem I have with the NHL draft. Most of the information we get is someone else's writeup. We rarely see these kids play, unlike in football, basketball, and even baseball.

ok, here is my take on the draft so far

I over reacted when we took 2 d men initially

looking at how it played out:

1. They got 2 of the top 4 ranked d men coming into the draft
2. I am sure the difference between the 5th ranked D man and 15th ranked D man is much greater in this "deep" draft then the 10th best skater up front and 25th
3. Between Armia and the two G's, the top 2 line guys were taken w/o getting highly ranked d men
4. Just because we like Mcnabb, does not mean the Sabres are that high on him
5. We moved one of the puck moving d man, got a stay at home d man who is younger and a kid that would have been a first round pick if he was a few days younger.

This may end up being Darcy's best draft

- navinrjohnson

Isint McBain a PP QB as well? I thought I read that.

They said this draft compares forwards 2003
Eric Staal cup
Nathan Horton cup
Jeff Carter cup
Dustin Brown cup
Zach Parise cup
Ryan Getlaff cup
Ryan Kessler close to cup
Mike Richards cup
Corey Perry cup
Thats from the first round only. The experts compared the forwards from this draft to 2003 and Darcy said lets take 2 def. the experts dont know poop

- hafgod

Why do u keep saying its just the "forwards" ?
The defensemen were extremely highly rated as well
U seem to be ignoring that

When Girgensons rubs Marchand against the boards we will all be seeing why we spent two 1st Round Picks on Centermen and Two 1st Round Picks on BIG Defensemen this year....Stay calm and get ready for Trades this summer

I agree
We will get a couple really good forwards in the next two drafts
I can't see us picking outside the top3 if we trade Miller & Vanek

Look, everyone has a counter for everything and everyone's an expert and all that jazz. I have my opinion of the situation, the draft, this team and our front office. I'm very comfortable with it and in sports where nothing is right or wrong and only time will tell, I'll just stay over here with it.

So if everyone wants to 'stick' when they have 15 instead of taking a risk and saying "hit me" then y'all go and knock yourself out and enjoy our 'elite' defense in 2018.
