Still kinda wish we picked Nichushkin, but I think some people don't realize just how good of a draft we had. - Herzeleid
The only pick I'd complain about would be Ristolainen. I wish we took the risk with Nichushkin. Ristolainen is a VERY solid defender, but I'm skeptical on his self-described "two-way mentality" when he put up only like 13 points in the SM-liiga... The player comparable of Derek Morris really got me worried... Morris is crap. Hopefully it's completely inaccurate like Armia's "comparable" of Henrik Samuelsson that TSN had a couple years ago. |

The thing about our picks that at this point they are just picks, they have not played 1 single game and there is no guarantee that playing in the Buffalo system is going to make them good/great or crap players.
Myers has turned into a basket case, other players quite possibly are nowhere near whey maybe they could actually be. I honestly don't see Miller or Vanek wanting to stay to be honest unless these guys play so lights out in training camp that they make the roster. - MikeyOz
That's the thing
Even if we decide we want them...
I just can't see why they'd want to stay at this point |

Miller and Vanek 1-2 year contract exstenson
should work out perfectly remember the cap should go up to about 70m next year and 75m the following year so the sabres will have more than enough money

No chance Miller will be 33, and Vanek 30 going into UFA status, they will want to cash in on their last big contract. |

What Baffles me is that Carolina was WILLING to trade their #5 to us for Reggie Sekera and our #8, Which means we could have selected Either CENTER Lindholm or Monahan and then maybe missed on Ristolinan but still gotten Radalov! I'm confused on this one
We did end up getting TWO players for SEKERA, which were McBain (proven NHL Ready Defensman and Compfry) |

Ya, you don't even know how mad I was when we picked Ristolainen over Nichushkin, and still wish we picked him instead (Russian connection for the win) but the rest of our picks were good. Compher was supposed to be a mid 20's 1st round pick for a while, Hurley was the youngest player in the draft I think and like someone else said, if picked next year probably would have gone much higher, Justin Bailey looks good, and I'm really interested to see how Possler turns out. |

I had heard and read alot about Nichuskin and when I heard that he was available for Buffalo I thought they were going to take him, the only thing I can think is that around the clubs they basically just thought he was WAY too much of a risk either because of the KHL or maybe character/motivational problems, because it seemed like a no brainer. |

Derek Morris?
I don't get that comparison at all
He's nothing like Morris

Definately gone, but I won't put money on it, although Regier saying he would absolutely start the season with them, kind of means they are gone if you ask me! |

Well, buy the sound of the Darcy interview at sabres.nhl.com, the offer was Sekera and 8 for McBain and 5. If Darcy seriously rejected that, I'm going to murder him. |

I agree the offensive players we did choose are underrated but we have SO MUCH DEFENSE right now with McBain in the mix as well! I really wanted one of the two CENTERs We could have had, Monahan or Lindholm but didn't.......that hurts |

Ehhhhh I don't know, I think being 1,2,3 was the only real goal, if that was not possible no point trading up to be honest, but I still think you should murder him |

Jim Rutherford admitted to have targeted Sekera as their goal today and we could have had the choice of Monahan or Lindholm! |

I posted before I read what you posted, but pretty much. You didn't have McBain in yours, but you got the gist of it. |

So is it generally agreed we are in for a long season next season ? Unless some sort of miraculous thing happens and Rolston becomes coach of the year ? |

Why? Who would we have taken at 5? Mind as well waited and took who they wanted at 8, and got the extra 2nd round pick. |

Still think it would have been better to take Nichushkin and give Carolina Sekera in the 2nd and get Compher too. |

We could've gotten Monahan or Lindholm, AND gotten our shut-down guy in Zadorov at 16... |

I can't fathom not taking either of those 2 players, I think Lindhold will be a really good player, MOnahan as well and we have a need at center right ? *sigh* |
