I doubt that rumor is true

Watch Darcy's new interview at the Sabres' site and what he says about it. It'll change your mind quickly.

We could've gotten Monahan or Lindholm, AND gotten our shut-down guy in Zadorov at 16...
- LetsGoBuffalo75

honestly if we would have traded up to 5 and not take Nish I would have been more mad, I am happier to get an extra 2nd out of it, if we would have taken Lindholm or Monahan.

I posted before I read what you posted, but pretty much. You didn't have McBain in yours, but you got the gist of it.
- LetsGoBuffalo75

Yes, we wouldn't have received McBain in the original swap, so we waited and received McBain and their 2nd rd pick, in essence we got two for one, but I would have thought that one of those elite centers would have been worth it. In the end we ended up getting Compfry and McBain for Sekera instead of Monahan and Radalov. I would choose Monahan + Radalov instead of Ristolinen + Compfry + McBain, but Darcy must have been VERY high on Ristolinen, and maybe for good reason??

Geez Chicago is being really well as a club, Bolland gone, but they make the tough decisions and sign who they need and realise they have to let some things go, I get the feeling at the moment, the Sabres are just drafting and keeping players HOPING they turn into something other than high paid pylons.

Instead watch Jim Rutherford's interview, he admits it. Darcy shows how surprised he was that Jim leaked it to reporters...it will be all over WGR tomorrow.....I promise...

Jim Rutherford admitted to have targeted Sekera as their goal today and we could have had the choice of Monahan or Lindholm!
- MEBSabresFAN

If this is true then Darcy and Devine should both be fired tomorrow morning.

The deal was McBain and 5 for Reggie and 8, so we would've gotten Monahan, Zadorov, AND McBain but no Compher over Ristolainen, Zadorov, McBain, and Compher... Seriously idiotic if Darcy rejected that deal.

Why? Who would we have taken at 5? Mind as well waited and took who they wanted at 8, and got the extra 2nd round pick.
- Mentalorgasm5

If that actually was true,
It just tells me that Ristolainen was their guy all along

My perfect draft had us getting Lindholm & Ristolainen...
But that would've been tough
I think we def would've had to trade up from 16 to get Ristolainen

I feel better if that is your opinion, so is Ristolinen a better player than Lindholm or Monahan?....

I can't fathom not taking either of those 2 players, I think Lindhold will be a really good player, MOnahan as well and we have a need at center right ? *sigh*

Hodgson, Grigorenko, Girgensons, Ennis, Larrson, Catenacci all disagree with you.

Monahan and Lindholm would immediately bypass everyone but Grigorenko... And Lindholm plays RW as well.

I think so, but thats just me. And part of my opinion is really bias towards wanting to land Valeri Nichushkin too though.

I agree, if Ristolinen was their Target as he seems to have been then Darcy did well to get the extra player, but Jim Rutherford in his interview DID NOT mention McBain with the original swap from 5 to 8 but the reporter mentioned it and Darcy said he didn't remember that being included. It seems Darcy really wanted a Right Shot and with McBain he got it. Might that be the real story?

Even so, Monahan/Lindholm > Sekera and Ristolainen. Just my opinion.

Hodgson will still be a great 2C, and I wasn't knocking Lindholm or Monahan, we just don't have a need at center. Besides, you know who else plays wing?.......

I know rankings are sketchy but Hockey News had Ristolinen ranked 39th while Lindholm was 6th and Monahan 7th

I wouldnt put too much into it, everywhere else he was rated much higher, I think some of it had to do with him being a defensemen

I'm with you on this choice.....which leads me to believe that Darcy has more planned for upcoming Free Agent period and Trades.....He avoided Lindholm, Monahan and Nischinin for a reason, I think he has something up his sleeve......Could it be BRIERE?

Do we have a "need" at center?
Grigorenko, Hodgson, Ennis, Larsson, Girgensons, Catenacci, Kea, Nelson, Schaller...
I actually think we're pretty good there

They must have wanted Ristolainen all along & didn't think they'd be able to trade up from 16 to get him

I really would've like Lindholm
But it would've sucked to miss out on Ristolainen
Sure, we still could've gotten Zadorov, but I like Ristolainen better, so it would've sucked to miss out on him

They're pretty ignorant then. Ristolainen is still a top 10 guy IMO.

I agree with that, the TSN guys are VERY high on Ristolinen and had him as the 2nd highest Defensmen in the Draft behind Seth Jones, and if that's the case I can see why Darcy Trageted him.....

Briere better bring some of his friends, such as Jagr and Lecavalier, or he isnt gonna pull enough out of his sleeves.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got him, but he wouldn't be the reason behind us not getting a stud prospect.

I agree with you on missing out on Ristolainen......that was the key here and I think DARCY has a Center coming in for this year.......that we don't know about.....Briere or LeCavier?? Or Statsny from Colorado? I really think Darcy has a trade ready to bring in a center......we shall see

Its refreshing to have some intelligent discussions on the players we choose and why.....rather than that dribble from earlier....pathetic
