Was that the summer of Josh Harding, too? - Tomahawk
Yeah, Josh Harding too. It was the summer we got Ray Emery instead then lost him and went to the finals.
So we need to find a KHL reclaimation project this summer. What about that dude that was playing in front of Bryzgalov? He was a Caps pick. Let's get him. |

When did people start to believe Ghost had a good chance to make the NHL at some point. It seemed like he was picked in the third round then the next day he was a steal |

Just because Morin was high on thier draft board, doesn't mean they couldn't get him or a similiar player 4-5 picks down, while picking up another pick. Like I said, I think it would have been possible to trade down and Pick one of Morin, Pullock, or Zadorov. Then trade what you get plus the 41 and get Shinkaruk or Furcale.
I was completely against trading down, but as soon as you couldn't get Nashville, Carolina, or Edmonton off thier pick and Nichushkin was off the board....
I think what happened is they thought Nichushkin was going to drop to 11, and when he didn't and Ristolinian was gone, they played "eni, mini, miney, morin. Dont pick pullock by the tow...." - youarewrong
If they traded down to 15, and Montreal traded up to 12, then they wouldn't have gotten Morin, now, would they?
What happened is, they knew that Morin was the best player left on their board, knew at least one other team was trying to trade up and get him, so they drafted him.
Yes, they could likely have gotten a similar player had they moved down, but obviously they had Morin ahead of the "similar" players. |

They had a list of players organized, and when Morin was their BAP, they picked him. They've been following him all year. Obviously they really believe in him. Drafting down and getting a "similar" player doesn't get your Morin, and Morin is the guy they believe in. I'm gonna support their choice until it doesn't pan out, then we can complain. |

it would certainly stir up another poopstorm in net, even if just for 1 or 2 years. would love ONE (frank)ING YEAR of no goalie drama, manufactured or otherwise. that said, i'd roll with timmay anyway....he's my alma mater. gotta' give UVM some love. and i love that he's a fat scrambly bastard, not a butterfly robot. |

"We had quite a few calls to move down," Holmgren said. "We had identified two or three players and Samuel [Morin] was one of them. Once we knew he was going to be there, we had no intention of moving back."

With Schneider going to NJ, Luongo staying in Vancouver and Bob staying in Columbus, I think the odds of Flyers signing Tim Thomas increased

Thomas is a guy with a Vezina and a Conn Sythe, and who put up great numbers for a stretch of years.
He's not may favorite guy, because I feel that his public statements and actions created an issue in the room that was a distraction for the Bruins the year after they won the Stanley Cup.
But, if he just comes in and plays, I'm onboard. He's not a bigger risk than a guy like Ellis or Emery, and he wouldn't cost assets to acquire, like Halak or Hillier |
