Any word on what Timmy has been doing this past year? Yoga? Teaching Beard Growing 101 at a local community college? Pondering the design of his next - perhaps last - mask? Hiding in a bunker?

I said it before, I would really like it if Thomas signs. I like his comments.... At least the ones I heard like not wanting to go to White House.... I wouldnt either.
- youarewrong

I don't necessarily disagree with his comments, and I agree with his right to freedom of speech, but I believe he shouldn't have mixed politics into the equation at all. When I think of any pro athlete, I don't associate them with one political party or the other, and it shouldn't be that way. It's the same with businesses like chick-fil-a publicly denouncing gay marriage, or Dominoes announcing that they as a company are pro-life. There are just no positives that can come out of doing that.

I go straight to "unbearable."

How can anyone be angry on draft day when you are picking 18-year-olds? None of whom, after the first few picks, are reasonably expected to make the NHL roster?

Yeah, I might have a preference. But I do not understand rage over this stuff. It'll be years -- YEARS -- before we know! YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just today, the person who runs THG, the site that JSaq writes for, tweeted that the Flyers' 2012 draft is looking SWEET. And it is! Just one year after some people wanted to throw themselves off a cliff because they didn't know who Scott Laughton was! JUST ONE YEAR LATER!

I love reading this board when we're debating things that we can actually look back upon and see cause and effect. But Samuel Morin isn't even 18 yet! I have no idea what he's going to do in the NHL -- if he even makes it!

No clue! None whatsoever! And I've been watching the Flyers and the NHL for 36 YEARS! Why? BECAUSE HE'S 17 YEARS OLD!

How can anyone be angry? It makes no sense whatsoever! NONE!

I have totally conflicting political views and that matters not one iota to me. He could be a communist or whatever else. The trouble for me is that his comments and actions caused an issue with the team.

Several players admitted it was a distraction and that it affected the team's focus. That's what matters, I could give a rat's ass if the goalie likes Obama or thinks he's the Devil.

In signing Thomas, I'd have some concerns: Conditioning, ability to return and be effective in goal. His views on things outside the rink are immaterial, unless they affect the team.

The most important thing about Tim Thomas is that he gives the Flyers even more leverage.

He's out there. Just one more guy to throw in the mix when the Flyers start talking to teams and agents, because no matter what, nobody wants to be the goalie who doesn't have a seat on the bench when the music stops.

Yeah, Buffalo might keep Ryan Miller. That's their right. Same with Jaroslav Halak in St. Louis. But they won't be talking crazy to the Flyers past a certain point, because a combo of Mason/Thomas for one season means the Flyers get a shot at those guys for free, since their contracts expire after this season.

#Isles will not toll Tim Thomas' contract. He'll be a UFA on Friday if he chooses to resume his career.

Thomas was pretty much right about everything he said, but that's irrelevant. the NHL is no place to get political and he's not paid to poison the locker room because of it.

hopefully, he's learned this. if not, I'd pass.

He put his personal politics above the team, above common courtesy, and above respect for people whose opinions he disagrees with. Even though I hold many of the same political positions.. I detest the atmosphere of studied incivility and downright hostility that has become the norm today when discussing opposing socio-political viewpoints. And yes, I realize this comes all parts of the political spectrum today.

It's just frustration -- I did everything I could yesterday to not get started. But at some point, between Ed Snider not being allowed to attend the draft and Ryan Pulock being Kevin Shattenkirk -- but only the New York Islanders recognizing this obvious fact -- it just lurches into the Realm of the Absurd.

Are you taking my right to be angry away? And I don't think people are as much angry as a mix of deflated and confused. Its not just the Morin pick. It was sooo hard to watch Hunter Shinkaruk fall and Furcal fall, and knowing it would be a perfect time for the Flyers to trade and swoop in that take these guys.... I was there. I was saying... How are these guys still on the board...

Dallas lands the guy who I feel will be the best player in the draft in 5 years, and 1 pick later the Flyers go off the board and pick a guy projected around the same as the guy they picked in the 2nd round.... deflating.

In short, it wasn't what he said, but how and when he did. Personally, my concern is with handing cap money and crease duty to a guy who's been away from the game for a season.

Great. Then we'll have a goalie whose been out for a year and another who's been out for two.
