I don't think Flyers would have to include anything nearly that high to get another team to take Meszaros for one year at his $4M salary. Philly just won't get squat in return. - bmeltzer
i'd be fine w/ a $$ dump, but they have been unsuccessful so far in convincing teams to take Mez or Nic according to this
http://theorangeupdate.co...urn-could-still-be-moved/
so why are they offering coby if they could just dump mez w/ a low pick? |

i think they'd much rather keep coby cause it'll be hard to replace him and regardless of the streit p/u, this D is still an issue going forward. |

Ya that's why they've apparently been much more keen to trade Mez, which is kind of what we've all been saying here since the end of the season. |

Per Pistachio's blog:
"Turns out Canadiens' general manager Marc Bergevin tried to work a deal with Paul Holmgren to get his pick so they could pluck Morin.
I saw one website give the Flyers a "D" for Morin. I thought that was being far too harsh.
Historically, as bad as the Flyers have been in the draft AFTER the first round, they always get it right the first time. Simon Nolet has never steered them wrong with players from his territory in Quebec.
But I would take one step farther. If future Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Pronger evaluates a soon-to-be 18-year-old kid and says he has the tools to be a big, mean, shutdown, angry d-man like himself, I'm going with Pronger."
Pretty much what alot of us have been saying, but just thought I'd share for those that don't read his blog.

Too bad mez's actual salary is sky high. Can the flyers take on some of the actual dollars in the remaining year? |

yea that's fine, but when your team is constantly out of the playoffs you really shouldn't bad mouth teams that always are in them. |

Don't get me wrong, Toronto is my least favorite team behind Pitt, but alot of those guys literally say what they do for the purpose of making easily irritable people angry. Welcome to the internet. |

they're buying out 8 years of his contract, so i think that makes it the longest, his cap hit is only 4.5, so i doubt it's the biggest

With the revenue sharing that goes on. Teams like the flyers should be allowed to excrete contracts like mez's on the Phoenix's and floridas of the world at will if we take on salary |

I think we can pay 50% of his real salary or something like that... |

Speaking of Toronto fans, I was listening to Jeff O'neil on TSN radio yesterday and he predicts that Vinnie will be the first NHL player to be bought out twice lol |

Yes, that's possible but I don't know that it would increase his value all that much. Other teams will still say he's a guy who has had back surgery, tore his Achilles tendon and had surgery, separated his shoulder and had a torn rotator cuff repaired surgically within a year PLUS he's a UFA after next season even if he is healthy?"
That doesn't mean another team won't take a chance on him being healthy. But it does mean they won't trade anything of value even if the Flyers eat part of the cap hit for next season.
The one thing that eating some salary on Flyers' own cap might do is open up a few more possible trading partners beyond floor teams. Most every team needs defensemen and Meszaros is a decent one when healthy.

If Jeff O'Neil was talking about using a second CBO, he should read some more and see that deals signed after the lockout ended aren't able to be CBO'ed. |
