Thomas posted a .920 save % and 2.36 GAA in his last season. Nabokov had solid regular season numbers (.910 2.50), but fell apart in the playoffs (.842% 4.44).

Nabokov would basically be handing the keys to Mason.

Isnt that kinda there game plan at this point

If a goalie being well-liked by all of his teammates was a pre-requisite for team success, Martin Biron would be the most sought-after goaltender in the NHL.

...and nobody would've touched Tom Barrasso with a ten foot Koho.

Is it? I think at the very least I'd want a guy who could take over and be the starter if Mason can't sustain his level from last season. I have concerns with Thomas, of course, but a short term deal could be a great situation for the Flyers.

I respect that aspect, but after the bryz distraction. Don't you think the players on this team are just exhausted by locker room drama? Not to mention that despite the fact he is a talented goalie, you have to sell a guy who basically quit on his team mates to a hard working blue collar city...Am I totally out of line to think this?
- nonpoint22

Not out of line but look at like this: Dominik Hasek was not always very well-liked by teammates or coaches, played an unorthodox style, was once (while in Buffalo) embroiled in a distracting controversy over just how able he was to play in the playoffs when he sat with an injury, and sat out a year at about the same age as Thomas.

Then Hasek came back. He did fine in Ottawa and then won two Cups in Detroit, the first of which came with him as the starter.

It's the game plan unless the Flyers would get someone with a better track record that would force Mason to play at a higher level to unseat.

Maxime Talbot-Sean Couturier-Matt Read
Zac Rinaldo-Scott Laughton-Rafl/Rosehill
Kimmo Timonen-Luke Schenn
Mark Streit-Rob Scuderi
Erik Gustaffson-Nick Grossmann
Tim Thomas
Steve Mason

Well I think it's almost given that he won't sustain a .944%, but I see your point. If Thomas could regain his form, he'd be that guy that could pick up some extra games if Mason faltered.

Any idea what young forward Homer wanted from Edmonton as the main piece for Coburn?

If Thomas regained his form, he'd be the unquestioned number one goalie. He had several Vezina worthy seasons over a 5 or 6 year stretch. A guy like that is an excellent insurance policy

well with coburn and mesz gone i think we would

about 4mm cap hit for dupuis, about 5 for lacavalier, about 4 for scuderi and 3 for TT and i think we're on the good side of 64.3

McGinn = DuPuis
IMO only reason he is getting a big payday is because of Crosby. And although McGinn isnt as polished as him, Id rather use him and save the money to resign read

they offered MPS and picks and homer wants more...deal still in works. if coby is dealt, it's a good indicator that mez is prob untradeable...at least until he's cleared to play.
