Probably, because if he's not in a scoring line role, he's kind of useless. I just don't think they were after Anton Lander instead of him. - Jsaquella
Seems like Gagner or Eberle.
I like Coburn. No hurry to trade one of your best Dmen. |

Probably one of those two, I'd guess Gagner.
Can't imagine the talks would have last that long for a Coburn for Eberle swap, unless there were other names involved |

Would Homer have wanted Gagner, 37 and 56 for Coburn? |

Yeah, I was thinking that's were the roadblock was. The rumored Paajarvi, 37 and 56 wasn't good enough for Homer so maybe he counters Gagner, 36, 57 and they could never meet in the middle. seems plausible

Who knows, maybe well see something this week. I'm pretty sure Holmgren still wants to add something up front and will need to clear salary to do so. |

What would he want to add? Adding Vinny for no assets would be awesome, but we already have our top 9 pretty much filled out. |

Might be more difficult for Thomas to come back from a year off than Hasek.
Hasek was about 30-lbs lighter and his game was predicated on flexibility, whereas Thomas relies much more on explosiveness and leg-strength. Unless he's been secretly doing on-ice workouts over the past year, it might take him at least a few months to get back into shape and in a groove. - Tomahawk
True but Hasek was also coming off a serious groin injury and subsequent surgery that ended his 2003-04 season abruptly and then he announced that he'd sit out the entire 2004-05 season (even if there wasn't a lockout that ultimately canceled the season). There was major question over whether he'd still be able to play effectively when he resurfaced in Ottawa in 2005-06.

I think Read may get traded, rather than risk losing him as a UFA next summer |

We'd still have 7 top-6 forwards if Vinny is signed. |

Hartnell, Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn and who? Couturier? He's not what I'd call a proven top six. Talbot? |

That's the wildcard with Thomas. But knowing his on ice persona, he's a battler and a hard worker. He doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that would half ass anything because he hates to lose. - Jsaquella
The thing I liked about Thomas before he pulled his little stunt was his perseverance and will to battle. I have to assume, since it's clear he really is looking to get back to playing, that he's been working out and trying to stay in form. What's more, with his age, he's likely working out twice as hard because that's what it takes once you cross that magical mid-30s barrier.
I say this because I seriously doubt he wants to come back into the NHL only to make a colossal ass of himself. |

not proven but I do consider Coots
Hartsy, G, Jake, Simmer, BSchenn, Vinny, Coots. |

I could see Coburn and Mez gonzo. Risky business building too many assets that teams know you need to trade.

I certainly hope Couts steps up and proves you right. We all know he's got the potential, and with this being his 3rd year at the ripe old age of 20, I think he's ready to take it to the next level. |

If they don't sign Lecavalier, I think they get one of Clarkson, Horton or Clowe. |

I think his lack of offense stems not from his inability but more from him playing the 4th line all year. Just like, what is Lavvy thinking playing a 20 year old who has the potential to be a 1st line player, who NEEDS decent minutes, on the 4th line? I wonder if Homer ever had a talk with him about it, cause that's just outrageous. |
