Getting Lecavalier instantly changes everything. The Hype Machine goes into over-drive, and with good reason. You have to assume he's not feeling to great about, for all intents and purposes, getting cut, and you hope that means he has a great big chip on his shoulder with something to prove this upcoming season.
You also have to assume Gags gets resigned. I don't think there's any way we get Vinny and Gags isn't brought back. It's not impossible of course, but doesn't make a lot of sense. And if those 2 can stay healthy, in addition to better performances from Couts, B Schenn, G and Harts, we are suddenly a very dangerous offensive team, especially with Streit and Mason helping to push the puck out of our zone and up the ice before the other team can really get settled.
I really enjoy imagining this deal going down. - wolfhounds
Best part is you dont lose any assets. Then if an opportunity pops up, Ryan, Yandle, Eberle, Kane....you got some wiggle room. Id be fine if it was Vinny and Gagne and Tim Thomas, call it a day.

I don't see Bobby Ryan on this team before he becomes a UFA. Too many quality UFAs that only cost $$ and not human resources. - jstross
I concur
I just hope he chooses to explore free agency instead of signing an extension with the team that gets him through trade. Imagine this top 6 in 3 years:
Kane - Giroux - Voracek
Ryan - Lecavalier - Simmonds

Cloutier mentioned Coburn for Smid + a prospect, such as Marincin. We'd save 1mil in cap space, get a player 1 year younger, AND another solid defensive prospect in that deal.
Thoughts? - Rocktane
Nah it's a little to logical
My biggest concern is, does Smid play shutdown like Coburn? |

now that the draft's over, what else do they have that's interesting? obviously the people talking eberle are off their rockers (i'd have to imagine, anyway). smid + maricin or whatever? doesn't make much sense to me. basically just getting that seemingly mid level prospect to downgrade from coburn to smid. not close to worth it, imo |

ah thats cool. apparently the pens are doing the opposite. everyone down to the ice girls are going to feel the financial burden of the new letang deal. rumors have it mario is actually going to have to run a few concession stands during intermission as well |

Same, but we'd have to give Coburn + to get Klefbom, and that's even if we could convince them to trade him. And once we get him, he has to fit into some long-term plan. If Hagg and Morin are both top-pairing guys, then what to do with Klefbom? I've never heard of a team having 3 top pairing guys (If you don't consider Shattenkirk top pairing) |

Ice Girls are high maintenance.
For Flyers fans everywhere, I want to thank you for getting rid of TK. |

i'm not saying do whatever it takes to get klefbom. i'm saying don't trade them coburn unless they budge. if they wanna place high trade value on a kid that's never played an nhl game that's fine. nothing to do with the flyers though
and are you saying that you're worried about having too many talented defensive prospects? we'd be lucky if things turned out that way |

ugh. there are a ton of good memories associated with him. he was a great speedy little plug on some really good teams. however, he has kind of regressed as a player, and his salary at 2 mil was a little high. for some reason, you guys were the only team that goofy looking bastard could score on anymore!
that being said, a second for him was a really decent return |

yeah. you can never have too much young quality organizational depth on D. its like running backs in fantasy football. most wont pan out anyway, there is always injuries, and even if they all do come up roses, they fetch a pretty penny on the trade market |

Absolutely. Good move all around. TK got you that goalie prospect, right? And I wouldn't be surprised to see him a reinvigorated for a year or two out west. |

yeah. they got a second (50th) from sj, and then moved that and another pick to columbus for a higher second to take jarry. i wont lie and claim to be too familiar with him, but some had him as the 2nd or 3rd goalie prospect in the draft. cant hurt i guess.
i wouldnt be surprised to see kennedy do well out there either. a change of scenery may give him his old spark back, as he kind of got lost in the shuffle of the pens lines. he has that high energy motor that san jose seems to be transitioning to from the old guard of marleau and thornton to couture and pavelski. wish him the best of luck |
