I would say there is reason to believe that if Flyers trade that pick, both the abouve get picked before Morin. - youarewrong
not sure how you can say that but ok |

Considering Pullock and Zadorov were picked at 15 and 16 I would say a trade down to right about ther would have landed you 1 of the 3, which are likely about equal players.

Who is to say they didn't try? It takes two teams to make a deal. (not disagreeing with your overall premise)
Just saying that perhaps they did try and either the other teams wanted to much, or offered too little.

Let me start off by saying this is no indication on Morin. I think he has all the potential to become what they say he can become.
What pisses me off is the Flyers staying put to take him. I'm sorry, but Nichushkin dropped to 10. Flyers should have either traded up for him, or traded down and picked Morin, or Zadarov there. It was a bad pick, and you cant even attribute it to picking by need, because there were players that met need that were passed by.
Hell, it might have been possible to get Morin and Shinkaruk if they traded down... or Furcal... It just doesn't make sense.
Homer just put his neck on the chopping block. He is going to need to do something big to get his head out from under the guliteen. I'm still hopeful, just worried.
So despite it being a boring draft from the Flyers I still had fun. At least until I reached Mount Laurel on the NJ Turnpick and my Front right tire blewout on the ride home.... That was fun... - youarewrong
It's easier to say "move up" than to do it. He was obviously trying to, as he was talking with edmonton and carolina almost constantly before they ended up picking. He said he could've moved down, but believe it or not, there would've been a significant risk of losing out on Morin if they had moved down. Don't say it was a bad pick until Morin either pans out or he doesn't. Because if he does reach his potential, I don't think anyone will say it was a bad pick |

I'm not sure I agree with you there. Sure it's not going to make him an all star overnight. But every athlete knows that winning is half mental. What are you willing to do to reach the next level? There is ALWAYS someone faster, stronger, meaner, more skilled - doesn't mean that you roll over and let them win. I think it's a small edge but it exists.
We can agree to disagree.

Maybe we should just imagine that Homer did trade our 11 for 2 late first rounders and then choose Morin and Hagg. People would probably not care if that were the case. - FlyersGrace
But then we would have had 3 picks in the first 2 rounds instead of 2. |

After 10 the picks were confined to the top 35 but moved all over the place with the exception of a hand full of reaches. It seemed obvious that the players in that range were similarly talented so why move and give up equity when you're going to get the same value right where you are? |

I still say Pulock will be the best defensman in the draft, possibly better than Jones. So if that happens and Morin becomes a stay-at-home #4, it's not necessarily a "bad" pick, but still an "unwise" one. |

Bill,
I'll be OK with it since they got Hagg. But watching this for months and the mocks and the video's, I know in the end they were still the same old Flyers going for the nasty player over skill. I would have still taken only R. Ristolein or R. Pulock due to toughness, leadership abilities and offensive skill with quarterbacking the PP abilities. This kid is a PROJECT and can't help us out soon. Pulock would have been perfect. One yr. at AHL, Kimmo retireS and Ryan steps into his shoes. What was so hard about that. Getting Pulock and Hagg would have been stellar. Remember due to the Flyers and their ways, it's still 38 YRS AND COUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder what the asking price for Edler was. Unfortunately, his NTC kicks in today. I thought for sure the Canucks would move him. - stveshdy
There still could be a deal if it turns out that Edler is ok with Philly and he waives the NTC to be moved here. I also am curious about what EDM was asking for in addition to Coburn for him. |

In the first 35 only two trades were made for picks. What makes you think anyone was moving their picks when no one did? It's easy for you to sit here and say move down without knowing if it's possible, assuming it is and condemning someone for not doing it.
Ed Snider was sitting right there. If there was a problem with the picks they would have addressed it then. - mayorofangrytown
Even so, it doesn't excuse the pick IMO. I can't call it BPA. He was raked below Haag in some scouting reports. I can't call it picking by need, because there were better same position players.
I dont know what to call this. And BTW, I'm sure they could have moved down if they wanted to... maybe not moved up, but they could ahve moved down.

He couldn't play in the AHL as I'm sure thirty people will now tell you.
Pulock could turn out to be just another hard shooting average defender who doesn't translate his game to the NHL. What makes you think he'll get here faster than Hagg or Morin? |

I think its a stretch to say any of the dmen drafted yesterday will be able to step in next year and replace Timonen. And Pulock can't play "one year in the AHL then step in for the retiring Timonen. its the NHL or juniors. All of the kids drafted will go thru growing pains including Jones. |

Bill,
Also, after the Nishchenkin(spelling) went past Buffalo, my antennas went up. They should have traded with Dallas or NJ to get him. It had to be Dallas. He almost fell to us. I think they would have taken him over any Defensemen. How much would it have cost us to move one spot for Dallas to have given him to us??? He would have been great and we still would have gotten Hagg. |

the only rumor I heard about them moving down is Montreal offered to take their 11th pick to take Morin. I don't know what Montreal offered to do this. |
