Only 1 cup in that group right ?

- mrpaulish

Quick for sure, doesn't Howard have at least one? I still don't think he is a $6M goalie even if he has won a cup.

Dat ain't gonna happen! If Q won 10 cups in a row Q-Arrrgh would complain Q didn't trim his moustache correctly.

And that Bowman is an idiot.

Again, I've ridden the hell out of the Bowman , Stanley but damn. They phucking won , enjoy it and get on board.

Jimmy Howard! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
- paulr

Was really surprised the Wings gave him that kind of money. They kind of bucked their own model with that contract.

I think Howard's a good goalie but would level the same assessment on him as Crawford; good goalie/not elite (maybe a little closer to it than Corey though).

I had my doubts about SB as well and I'm still not convinced he is calling all the shots, but that doesn't really matter so long as the Hawks are winning and making smart moves.

I'm just thankful I'm not a Nucks fan. What a complete mess they have going over there. But it will be fun to watch that circus, especially when Torts forgets what he promised Management about being somewhat normal.

I am slowly being won over by the front office. Taking that huge talent hit in 2010 and taking just 3 years to win it again sure shows they know what they are doing.

No, I think Osgood was still in net when the Wings won their last Cup and am pretty sure it was him (Osgood) in net for the Cup loss the following year in those back to back Wings vs Pens series.

As for the Canucks
I went to School with Ric Bowness and he is real happy to be in Tampa Bay and out of Vancouver

My bet is Crow prices himself out of the market not realizing his defense is a large part of his success.
- paulr

Very possible...but even in his intoxicated glee, he acknowledged the TEAM around him. If I'm a Hawk and in such a great situation and atmosphere...i'd take a little less to be a part of IT ALL

I don't get it. Maybe it's just my issue. It's ok not to like a certain player or coach, think he's an idiot or whatever. However, I am baffled by the unwillingness of a few posters to give credit where credit is due.

While I disagree that anyone could have coached the Hawks to a Cup in 2010 this year is completely different. The streak to start the year was a nice surprise but my guess is if most people polled (at the start of the season) on this board believed this year's group was winning the Cup the result would have come back somewhere around 90% not in favor (me among them).

Like I said, just don't get the idea of not giving Q or Stan any credit or even grudgingly giving credit for the result this year. Like Mr. P keeps saying...We won the Cup!!!

I wish more players thought this way. But to do that the lesser players have to see the stars take less. If Toews and Kane sign for $10M on their next contracts why would Crow or another role player want to take a significant cut less of the pie? Let's see if Toews' leadership extends out to the new contract.

Interesting nugget. Gillis completely botched that whole situation. What was he looking to get for Lou again; something like a roster player, prospect and #1 pick?

I'm sure that was a negotiation starting point or should have been but sounds like he never backed off those demands and now has to live this mess. He even made some statement after trading Schneider basically reiterating his stance on not trading Lou because they had an idea of what he was worth and just never got that offer. Overestimation much? Just like a lot of the VAN fans that post over here it's like he completely ignored Lou's albatross of a contract and believed they would actually recoup those demands for him.

We shall see. Would be great if he only took a modest raise (maybe something like 7-7.5mil per) because he realizes the Hawk FO has to have enough $$$ to pay other players under the cap as well.

And where is that kaptan maroon who refers to Toews as Toes saying he isn't a very good captain, trying to get a rise out of everyone? Funny how fast he disappeared when the Hawks took control of, and won the Series against the Bruins as 'Toes' picked the team on his back to win.

Lot of NFL players do....no reason NHL players can't do the same. Easy for us to say TAKE LESS though

- philco28

When NFL players do it, it is usually a reworking of contract terms to shift money around, often resulting in MORE guarenteed money tacked on to the end of their deal. Brady did this most recently. He helped the Pats' cap for a year and gave himself cash in hand... More like a win-win.

I have more brains than to even BOTHER making Q comments right now. We'll just wait until he starts line juggling a bunch of rookies who are just trying to establish themselves as NHL players.

Not picking on Leddy but the comment I made before about his intelligence was not based at all about his school performance. Again, someone who is very close to the situation qualifies it as a legitimate concern and people have voiced concern within the organization. Some in the FO think he will be able to overcome and reach his potential, others are not so sure.
- UnnamedSource

There is a school of thought in sports that too much analysis slows a players instincts. I am not concerned at all whether Leddy can find Chicago on a Map or even spell Chicago. He was born to play hockey.

I'll give ya that one. The pp still defies logic. Disagree on Q. I know you have no beef with Crow but Fivineze was also someone I was alluding to in that post. Every goal that went in was CC's fault...defies logic!

Him and there were a few Detroit trolls (Dat's who and another I can't recall) who were absent after game 6 of that series and completely disappeared after game 7.

Wish I could say the same about the Flame troll Whipper; guy's like a bad penny...

Players still needing time to develop into their potential should be paid accordingly. In Leddy's case I'd say $2.5 max.
- Ogilthorpe2

Here's the problem, though: all it takes is one silly GM and Leddy's agent has a comp that's hard to argue with. P.K. Subban's deal might make you think Leddy should be a relative bargain, but then have a look at Roman Josi. His stats and Leddy's are pretty close, and he's locked in at $4M a year for seven years, I think.

Now, granted Josi was a top pairing guy in Nashville and Leddy was in our 3rd pair, but still. The market is what the market is, no matter what we think it should be.

And if Leddy's agent wants to be a hard ass, he can. If what he really wants is the cash, then he can (and might) do the same thing Kyle Turris's agent did: make the demand so high that it becomes a ticket out of town.
