I'll admit to being very cranky lately. Still bummed about yesterday, even though it had to happen. - Ogilthorpe2
I am just waiting for Frolik to find the scoring touch that everyone thought he would have in the NHL, since he will be going to a division foe. |

5 draft picks and 5 mil cap savings for two 4th line players isn't enough???LOL - Blackwater13
This.
You dealt 2/3 of a 4th line away for 5 picks and $5+mm in savings.
That's proper roster mgmt in the salary cap era...especially when 1/3 of that line was a -23.3 rel Corsi with 49.6% o-zone starts...on a 'puck possession team' no less... |

I hope he does. He's been snake bitten during his time with the Hawks, at least as far as goal scoring goes. He's paid 2.3M now...imagine his price tag if he pots 15-20 goals again. |

Hopefully he doesn't get too many playoff penalty shot opportunities against his former team. |

And if he does, good for him - he'll cash in again.
He was given the chance with the Hawks, and couldn't regain the touch.
It worked out in Chicago because he found his niche, accepted it, and excelled at it.

There will be no problem getting a deal. He is an RFA. He has no negotiating rights....
You give him a qualifying offer. Make it fair and reasonable and its done. See PK Subban. - TrueGrit
PK got a deal for 2m this year and 3.75 for next for a cap hit of 2.875.
I wonder what Stan has offered Leddy. I can't see him offering more. |

If so, then you match - or take the draft picks. |

And Subban was a more accomplished player.
Stan should be offering around the same.

3 X $2.25 seems fair to me, but it's going to be north of that I'm sure. I don't think you can go much higher for more than 2 years, otherwise the Kane/Toews re-signings become more difficult. |

I see the official website has updated it's Player Tracker. I'm curious if the Hawks qualified all of their RFAs, guys like Lavin, Beach, Lalonde, Sauve |

Exactly. And as always you have the right to match the offer.
If I were a gm looking to offer sheet a guy, it would be Petrangelo in St. Louis, not Leddy. Espeically if you are going to go north of 3.5 to 4 million.
You might as well get a finished product for a few million more.
I understand hawk fan apprehension, but IMHO I just do not see there being a huge upside risk here.
Leddy may want longer term, but he will sacrifice dollars for that. So again, that will work in our favor short term and longer term.
Not sure if Leddy becomes a UFA after the next deal, but if I were him, I would definitely take the 2 for the 3 mill range and bet on my ability to cash in large after that.
The likelihood of him getting 4 or more years at 5 mill are very slim. Not sure what he wants, the salary or the term. That is up to the individual. |

He played with Sharp and Kane during most of the year, so he gets a little break in terms of his puck possession because that line was a blackhole this year |

Not at all, and don't confuse me with the other Q...arrgh, guy.
On this boat, I just don't trust Sheehy and think the Hawks will get: (a) screwed over; (b) screwed over at a very late time; and (c) screwed over at a time that the best acquisitions are already made so the Hawks are left scrambling. |

It really is not that complicated.
This negotiation will center on Nick feeling like he is part of the Hawks big picture. The player getting an idea of the what the team will expect from him, what they plan for him to be.
Then there is the function of contract length and yearly salary.
If the prospects for being part of the plan are there, then the rest will work itself out. In RFA situations, comparable's carry a lot of weight. Yes, offer sheets are always a risk, but you are not going to qualify him with 1.5 mill salary. My guess is that the Hawks qualify him at 3 mill, plus or minus 250k. Two, maybe 3 years. Hawks would push for 3. Think of that bargain, should he continue to develop.
Does somebody come in and pay him more money than shattenkirk? He just signed for over 4 million and more developed. That would be a very risky move for a team. It is my understanding that players, and Nick may get an offer sheet greater than the Hawks offer, however, he does not have to sign it.
I may end up being wrong, but I have not been as worried about this situation as many.

If that happens there should be another lockout immediately. Present day Nick Leddy isn't worth half that in value |

The salary cap will go up 10 million next year. and 3 to 5 thereafter. It will not be as big a deal. If you could signe Leddy for 3 years at 3 million. Take it. Will be a potential huge discount after next season. |

Eh, the Toews and Kane extensions are going to cost the team about 3.5 million, that number doesn't have me too worried |
