LeCavalier has average competitiveness for an NHL player -- smack dab in the middle of the Alexandre Daigle to Bobby Clarke scale -- and very high skills to go with his size.
In terms of faceoffs, he is above-average but not overwhelmingly dominant -- he was 50.9 percent in 2008-09, 53.2 percent in 2009-10, 50.9 percent in 2010-11, 47.8 percent in 2011-12, and 54.4 percent in 2013. - bmeltzer
Last year, Giroux was 54.5%, and the rest of the team combined was 44.4%.
If they don't get Vinny or resign Hall, then they need to look at someone like Boyd Gordon. |

Primeau declined with concussions.. otherwise he was still a 20-30 capable center who could win faceoffs. - jak521
The offense was already flagging before the concussions really crept in... his offensive decline was so pronounced that eventually they had to turn him into a checking center.
I don't see Vinny being able to make a transition like that, nor would I pay $25M over 5-years to find out. |

Maybe this year. What happens when Schenn, Laughton and Coots get better and Vinny regresses. Then you are paying a 3rd or 4th line center 5M for another 3 or 4 years. - PhillySportsGuy
But one of those 3 are going to be moved for a young defenseman. And Vinny is still 33. In 4 years I think he will be a fine 3rd line center, and with infaltion will likely be making 3rd line center money. |

People would love the Vinny signing up until the 10th game when people realize that he becomes a figure skater half the time hes on the ice. |

That still goes down in my mind as one of the worst trades we ever made.. Brindy should have remained a Flyer for life. |

How does it not help the franchise move forward? He's an insurance policy for Mason & time splitting starter for a year. They're not going to waste a year of Giroux prime to hope it works. - Jsaquella
That's another thing: Claude Giroux is an elite player right now. And as much as I'd like to believe that will continue for another 6 years, the reality is that we're looking at another two to three years of Giroux at the peak of his powers.
Scott Hartnell's probably got two years left of 25-30 goals, then he'll likely start declining. As we all know, Kimmo Timonen's likely done after this year...
Man. I don't know. I've talked myself into flipping either Schenn or Couturier for the run NOW. I think you can win with a defense of Timonen-Schenn, Grossmann-Streit or Coburn-Streit, or Grossmann-Gustafsson or Meszaros-Gustafsson, with the expected injury absences that will come with those guys.
You can get pieces you need for Sean Couturier, Braydon Coburn, or keep Coburn -- that would likely be fine.
But man. You look at where this team is right now -- it's not that it's far enough away from contention that you can't see it.
It's that they're actually close enough, as someone said before, that with a few tweaks, you can totally see them being really dangerous.
Damn it. Again, glad it's not my call. But I think risk is part of the whole deal, and if you can win...you probably should try to do that.

This is a good way to say what I am thinking. I just dont want to wait 4-5 years for Schenn and Coutuier to develop while Giroux is at his prime and Voracek and Simmonds are on the verge of coming into thiers. |

If the less pressure situation thing is true, then it could be. I thought it was PHI NYR TOR and MTL on the east. DET and ANA he met with as well.
EDIT: or the Panthers, I think he met with them, and that would be pretty good for his living situation |

Yup, and according to most on here yesterday, the Flyers know more then the fans. So I'll employ Flyers logic.
Oh and he will be on an under 35 contract, so if he retires... no sweat. |

will Harry Z have a full time role 4th line with the Pens next season ? - MrBigglesworth
I wonder if the Penguins will finally begin to be labeled as a dirty hit team? Poor Boston looked beat to crap after their series. And we all know that they love headhunters... Poor Harry Z got crucified when he played for us. Playing for the Penguins may wipe his rep clean... As long as he's throwing bone crunchers on us who cares right?

I think you are comparing to totally different players though...
Primeau's best season was 73 points (his first full year in Philly). Prior to that he had a few good years in Det., but in Caroline he had 51,52, 63,62 point seasons.. He had a good year, and then kinda came back to reality and 48 and 46 point seasons. Vinny is still near a ppg clip. Over the past five seasons his ppg marks are: .87, .85, .83, .76, .82... mean while he went from a 20 minute a game guy to a 17 minute a game guy (thanks to Stamkos). |

Danny B is built like a smurf and was still able put up similar numbers to Vinny.
Vinny was given Mario Lemieux's toolbox and instead played down to level of a 5'10 finesse player.
I'd say there's a bit of a gulf in desire between the two players, and it's not in Vinny's favor. |
