Brodeur wasn't horrific, he just wasn't up to his usual level of play...Johan Hedberg, he was horrific when Brodeur was hurt.

I think that the Devils and Brodeur know that Schneider will be starting more games this year, and that he's their future.

Emery's been back playing for a couple years now. He hasn't had any issues with the hip since his return and he's played solidly.

While I have concerns about Emery's hip, I know he will also answer questions about it himself and not make it anyone else's burden.

He's not a starter anymore, but he can be a solid time splitter and back up

Media in philly will attack goaltenders no matter what.

The media can choose not to make it a distraction. The media can choose not to ask those questions. The media can choose to focus on hockey and only hockey. The media in Philly is a disgrace and if i'm GM I spend no time worrying about what they're going to do or say.

With that said, I'd rather try Halak in net. Has time to grow with the team etc. If we think Mason could be our #1, then grab Thomas to "help" him out.

Then again, you have to admire him for sticking to his asking price despite the temptation to dump Luongo for nothing more than Matt Walker and a 4th, and being handcuffed by uncooperative owners.

In the end, they still got a lottery pick out of the whole thing...

If Patrick Roy had played with the Flyers in his prime, he probably would have lost an arm in a freak ping pong injury.

I dunno. They're never controversial to me. I don't read anything about what players do or say, unless its playoff time.

I think he most controversial thing to me over the last couple years is how Lavy has treated goaltenders.

... and if he's unable to regain his edge? Not all player comebacks are successful... banking on him being an eternal exception like Hasek would be a huge gamble.

He did get a lottery pick, but he also retained Luongo's contract. If he did have a valid offer at the TDL, that's when he should have moved, or even last summer.

They are still solid in goal, and got a good asset for an "Elite" goalie(somehow a guy who has never been a full time starter and has under 100 NHL starts is Elite now), so it's not all bad.

When Emery had his injury, the consensus was that his career was over. He made a recovery that's just shy of a miracle, and I'm really happy for him. But for a short-term deal, I'd be okay with it.

The hip had to do with his bone cells dying. The knee was separate.

I think in the end Vancouver still walks away a winner if by dumb luck. Lu is still a fantastic goalie and will be for at least 5 more years (which everyone seems to forget). They keep a top netminder in Lu and they go out and get Horvat and Shinkaruk in the draft. They also rid themselves of the schneider/lu goalie controversy --- so Lu is now the unquestioned starter in Vancouver.

Watch them go out and have a fantastic season next year.

If it's a one year deal, there is no harm in it. I think the risk/reward issue has more reward then risk. If he plays like he has, its a reward. If he plays at 75% of his potential, he'll still be better than what we've had.

Worst case scenario, you trade him at the deadline. Given that he doesn't have a NTC etc etc

Worst case scenario, you have a guy who stinks, is a constant distraction, and is probably carrying a high cap hit and NMC.... doesn't that sound familiar.
