Talbot is the epitome of a hockey player to me. Not the most gifted guy in the world, but works his tail off every single shift. That, and the "jiggy jiggy" on that first Pittsburgh car commercial ("Superstar treatment!") have made me a fan since day 1 for him.

Someone has to be around to avoid people by throwing flying elbows at them.

i wont defend neal's shenanigans any more than i would want you to defend schenn's. both are far too fond of risky plays. i will say this though, thats not typically a regular part of neal's game. however, in that series, it was pretty inexcusable. i dont buy the heightened tension or nature of the series as making it okay. neal's roaming elbows and schenn's leaving his feet to go up high both have no place in the game, especially from guys who should realize that they make their bread and butter in the offensive end and they would be appalled to have that sort of crap done to them.

Agreed. That was the most batpoop crazy game I've ever been to. I was at the game where they set the record for PIM, but the pure insanity that was Game 3 was off the charts.

exactly. he has so much heart. its a shame that he had such nagging injuries and inconsistent play his last year in pittsburgh. as important as those guys are to keep around, on a team with big guys taking up so much of the cap, every penny has to be accounted for down to those role players, and at that time he just wasnt worth it to the pens for the amount you guys offered. like i said, i have no ill will to him whatsoever for taking the money from you guys. the difference was ridiculously substantial, especially to a guy on the lower end of the payscale in the league. its not like he was some superstar who vindictively left over half a mil on a mega contract.

other than when he plays the pens, i will always wish him well

Im judging on what I have seen. I dont know why you always get so hostile lol. If you dont think he should play on the team this year... thats your opinion.... one in which I disagree. I think he should and will play. You say you cant compare him to Richards, then compare him to Giroux. My head hurts.

Hang on, how do I always get hostile? How you take my posts are how you take my posts but I'm not getting hostile. People are crying to me in response to my posts because they differ with me. I could care less. I'm giving my opinion on recent years of rookie forwards coming out of camp. Giroux and B.Schenn were both locks that never made it. On the other hand Couturier and JvR did. Both were deservingly so, especially JvR who had an awesome rookie camp. Let's try not to deflect and point fingers here. I'm just not jumping the gun and getting too excited because I've seen this many times before. Cap space could also become an issue depends on the direction the flyers choose to go in.

yeah exactly. and the asham poop made me want to puke as an objective fan of the game. i think thats why a lot of time i just have such a loathing for the plug guys who do things like that. i realize its their job to engage better players, but to me its just unfair because they obviously have much much less to lose.
i will concede that as soon as a plug stops crossing that line, they are pretty much unemployed, so i guess my gripe is with the league wide mentality of it as a whole. im glad that it is slowly fading from the game. and i dont care if that makes me sound like a wussy either

Not the end of the world, but supremely stupid nonetheless.

In a couple of years, Vinny will be where Danny B is now... a finesse player you can't use in a bottom-six role, a high-priced roadblock to the kids, a candidate for salary-dump/buy-out.

i would never question asham's toughness, but in that instance i do think he crossed the line. honestly, rinaldo is annoying as hell, and i just cant do anything but laugh when people try to convince me he is some sort of skilled nhler, but he actually isnt really THAT dirty.

but yeah, there arent a lot out there, which i am fine with. even some of the older stalwarts of the fighting guard at least used to have an unwritten code, in which they would at least square off against each other. to me, those guys typically just make for brutal hockey to watch if they arent fighting, but at least they saved it for each other and they knew what they were getting in to.

my issue is when say lower skill player X takes dirty liberties with finesse star Y. and im not talking about good physical d either, as i realize that is really the only way to effectively take guys like crosby and giroux off of their game. it is the dirty stuff and post whistle stuff that upsets me. the star has no winnable situation. either take it, risk injury and be branded a wussy, or play along and go to the box. to me, the game is a better overall product when each team's premier skill guys are on the ice
