Pierre and McKenzie were shocked that Florida passed on Jones... said they need a Franchise Dman in the worst way.
but it seems like Florida had Barkov as BPA
(yes i know they need centers too) - Crimsoninja
Colorado also needs one badly.

Holmgren stated that Meszaros is expected to be declared ready to go by the end of the month. - MJL
I wouldn't be surprised if he has a setback or is injured again in training camp |

homer also said carter wouldn't be traded - 2Real
Did homer say he wasn't buying out Bryz this year too? |

I wouldn't be surprised either. All I'm saying is that they can't have that approach now, and plan to put Meszaros on LTIR come October. |

Something has to happen with the top 7 defensemen. My hope is that maybe Mez has a good, healthy camp and can get moved for a 3rd round pick- if he isn't moved before then.

Thought I read something about Homer stating that but maybe it was Bryz's agent. |

Most likely it is the case, that something has to happen. All I'm saying is that the plan can't be to place Meszaros on LTIR come October.

My guess is there will be teams hoping to add D via free agency who won't be able to get the player(s) they want. Mezaros will be traded to one of those teams probably for a 3rd or 4th round pick. |

I'd be surprised if he brings back that return. But I hope you're right.

So is Calgary. I think he's going to Montreal.
Or maybe not...

Hearing Lecavalier could decide which #NHL he'll sign with as early as tonite. Told #Canadiens were in the final running but are now out. |

So a full year of Meszaros isn't worth as much as 30 games of Pavel Kubina? Whoa! |

St Louis must be pissed. Pietrangelo has a big number to work off of now. |

Different scenarios. Naturally at the trade deadline, high demand causes a rise in price. Whereas trading a recently oft-injured player with a high salary in the offseason will be much tougher to get a good return on. Ideally, we would have the ability and cap room to keep him and an extra d-man til the deadline, prove his health and effectiveness, and move him for a 2nd and 3rd at the deadline. But as we know, we don't have this luxury or patience. |

Fair points. But as mentioned not exactly a huge selection of UFA dmen. And lots of teams are in need. Teams who aren't able to land a UFA, might be willing to gamble on Meszaros. If he had more than one year left on his deal it might deter them. I would like to clear his cap hit. If he's traded I fully expect him to get healthy and return to form. Cause that's the way things go. |

Not so much patience, but the Salary Cap get's in the way. It's a shame, but they may need to give him away to do something else. And let's not forget that the Cap space is part of the return.

Absolutely agree with everything. If he's moved you know he'll go back to looking the Ashbee award winner of 2010-11. Ideally, the Flyers show patience this offseason and if they aren't offered a deal to their liking, they hold on to him. Then in the preseason, hopefully he shows other teams he's healthy, and he could always be moved then. Who knows. It won't happen (the Flyers show patience? ha).
Edit: But like MJL said, cap space is also a major asset and reason for moving him. |
