Unless the Oilers are getting something else with it. I have no idea why they would want to trade Smid for Coburn. If they want to do that deal straight up, done deal. Honestly don't understand why they want to trade Smid at all.

money is money, but players want to win, and they want to go to a team where they think they CAN win...so vinny had to be comfortable enough with the direction of the team, and the goaltending in particular in order to commit the rest of his career here.
who knows who will be brought in here, but i suspect they have a plan. why they haven't been able nail it down yet and went with the forward first, i don't know. gives them less leverage in making other moves because now they have to make them...

It's like we were talking about earlier: They were actually closer to contention than the haters want to acknowledge -- they just had to decide how they wanted to do this.

Yeah, we gotta get a goaltender. That's obvious, everybody knows it, and we will. Steve Mason isn't going it alone.

But the Flyers were missing a 60-point centerman on the second line last year. Even though Lecavalier isn't what he was, he's still a 60-point centerman for a second line.

Mark Streit helps us, for what the Flyers needed. With Lecavalier and Streit in the fold, they should score at the same rate they did two years ago, when they had Jagr and Carle.

That was a 102-point team. They don't have to move Coburn if they don't want to. They can sign a goalie for $2.5 million and get every single bit of production they got from Ilya Bryzgalov last season and make the playoffs and be dangerous in them.
