First off, I'm thrilled with Lacavalier at a 4.5 million cap hit. The 5 years doesn't bother me either as the cap ceiling by year 5 will most likely be over 80 million.
They add size, skill and leadership (which is a more important factor with Briere gone) without giving up any players or picks.

I'm not sure why so many are worried that this means Couturier or Schenn is going. While Read may still be trade bait, I think its more likely that only Mezaros is dealt, and a vet is added to play goal with Mason. A likely lineup would be:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lacavalier-Read or Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Read or Simmonds
Rosehill or McGinn-Laughton-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Streit
Grossmann-Gustafsson
