Hey Bill, if Alex Edler is indeed available, as many have reported, is there any good reason why the Flyers shouldn't make a big push to get him? - CAFlyersfan
His NTC kicked in, it might cool the trade speculation. |

Problem is his NTC kicked in on July 1st. Has to approve a move to Philly. |

There would be undeniably big risk in signing Thomas even if he wants to play here. But there would also be potentially high reward, too. So long as it's not a multi-year deal, I'd personally be on board with it if that's the direction the Flyers chose to go next season. I also wouldn't be heartbroken if they looked elsewhere instead.
Homer: High risk, high reward? Let's get him! |

That's a young player I would be interested in. Don't know if he was qualified. |

With that lineup, Akeson is in the minors. Possibly Gervais also. - MJL
And Mcginn. Laughton won't be on the team just to sit in the press box. Where is Gus? |

I'm surprised they qualified him given this situation. - Feanor
Same here he can be IR'd or LTIR'd to save some cap space though. |

Are we just so accustomed to tapping the Phantoms of all their resources that we just assume anyone in our system with talent automatically makes the big team? |

Very good puck handler and passer. He's not exactly a great two way player willing to go to the dirty areas. Bill probably knows a lot more seeing as how he's covered the Stars. |

Vinny changes everything. You add a guy that will have a Forsberg role on the team. Low pressure situation, we all know this is Gs team and Vinny can help him out.
You then can move Schenn to wing, or use one of the kids in a deal for that Dman we have all been wanting, or you go for the Bob Ryan move. Vinny gives you options without having to lose any assets. If its 5 years 25 mil, in my opinion the Flyers would do that in a second. They threw a quarter of a BILLION dollars in contracts out last offseason, if they see a guy they like the go for it. |

I do agree. However, he does make the team better.
I honestly don't know if Schenn and Couturier are ready for that next step still. They have shown flashes but have to do it on a consistent basis. - stveshdy
Sign me up for vinny. 5 yrs at 22.5. Limited NTC. Put b. schenn on the wing. You may never get the chance to get a better center for the 2nd line. Size, face off ability. Flat out makes the team better. Slot cooter and Laughton in as the centers behind him.
Put it this way. If we got streit it doesn't make much sense not to go for it and bring vinny on board too. No sense in half assing it.

Ribeiro might have one of the most punchable faces in the NHL. |

The Flyers have done a pretty good job of developing fringe NHL talent into serviceable players. Not stars or top line players, but they have at least filled in fairly well because of injuries. |

All comes down to Vinny at this point. The Flyers can pay him his asking price and also slot him in at second line center. He will also get PP time. Not much more the Flyers can offer him at this point. |

What they do over the next five days will answer all we need to know about this team.
If they're able to sign Vincent Lecavalier, they're going to do something big. Bigger than Braydon Coburn getting moved for a young forward.
To me, the rebuild-on-the-fly hinges on what Lecavalier does.

If they sign Vinnie, I'd go with:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Vinnie-Read
Talbot-Couturier-Simmonds
McGinn or Rosehill-Laughton-Rinaldo
Gives you a good balance of size and speed on each line and a nice mix of offense and 2 way play on the 2nd and 3rd lines. - BiggE
In this scenario, there is no point in even having Laughton make the big club. You'd be burning a year of his ELC for nothing. |

I agree it is a tough decision but if you sign Vinny then one of Couturier or Schenn could be moved for a young defenseman. - Stinkfitz

I agree
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Laughton-Couturier-Read
McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo
Or just swap Laughton/Talbot
either way I really like it. Lots of size, skill, grit, and players with the flexibility to play either wing/center, move up and down lines as needed.

Playing in a fourth line role will do more for him than playing in JRs IMO. Time for him to make the jump. He will likely see about 11 minutes a night. |
